Obituary of Michael J. McCarthy
Michael J. McCarthy was born on July 4th, 1931, in Seattle, Washington. He was reunited with his Lord on January the 7th, 2024 with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen (Fagan) McCarthy, his four children, Michele Toulouse (Patrick), Carrol Weaver (James), Erin Gregory (Michael), Daniel McCarthy (Karen) and, 9 grandchildren, Ryan Ramondetta (Bridget), Michael F. McCarthy, Rachel Ramondetta, Jess Weaver, Abigail Gregory, Megan McCarthy, Julia Weaver, Joseph Gregory, Madison McCarthy, and step granddaughter Kylah Tuazon.
Michael Attended Seattle University where he met Kathleen. They were married in 1959 and shortly thereafter he entered his required Military Service. He achieved the rank of Army Captain and was honorably discharged in 1971. He and Kathleen lived nearly fifty years in the family home on Queen Anne Hill and were parishioners at St. Anne Parish. Michael was a career merchant seaman and worked for various maritime companies which were local to the Puget Sound area though his favorite was as a deck officer with the Washington State Ferry System in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Michael’s hobbies included travel, chess and backgammon. He was a history buff and avidly read historical non-fiction. He was a champion marksman and an outstanding dancer. By far his family remained his most dearly held joy, and he was especially devoted to his wife Kathleen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Disabled American Veterans or The American Heart Association.

My sincere condolences to Michele, Patrick, and the McCarthy family on the loss of Michael. Though I never had the chance to meet Michael personally, witnessing the kindness and grace in Michele speaks volumes about the loving upbringing she must have had. It’s a testament to Michael’s character and the positive impact he’s left behind. In these moments, we lean on our faith for comfort and solace, trusting in God’s promise of peace and eternal rest. May you find strength in each other and in the warm memories shared with Michael. Sending thoughts and prayers your way from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
