Obituary of Mary Theresa McGreevy
Mary Theresa McGreevy, 83, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Stormont Vail’s palliative care.
She was born January 16, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, to William Emmett McGreevy, Sr., and Helen (Fallis) McGreevy. Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Francis School of Nursing, received Suma Cum Laude honors with her BSN from the University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo, and was an MBA candidate at the University of Phoenix, Colorado Springs.
Mary was born a leader, forging a path upward as a model for her daughters, her family, and all she knew. Her career as a medical professional was a storied one, beginning as a charge nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS, to Head Nurse at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO for 12 years, where she implemented the first Short Stay Unit now known as Same Day Surgery. Her expertise was sought out by Correctional Medical Systems, out of St. Louis, MO where she found her next professional home as a Site Administrator at El Paso County Detention Facility, then continuing to emerge as Regional Administrator and finally, Regional Manager. Her next great passion-realized was becoming an owner of Hospice of the Comforter in Colorado Springs, CO where her vision for health and dignity during all stages of life could be achieved and put in motion.
Work-life balance was a priority in Mary’s life. Her family, daughters, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, and grandchildren were all-important and ever-present in her plans. She incorporated her hobbies like traveling the United States and the world by train, plane, boat and automobile. She fearlessly took all her grandkids on a cruise, bought an RV to camp and travel with them, rented ski lodges to ski with them, hiked Pikes Peak with them, and so many more special adventures. Mary was a tireless supporter of her grandchildren’s and families’ many sports and musical events, cheering and attending all she could. Going to the Farmer’s Market, horseback riding with Wichita family, Pawhuska Pow-wows, playing bridge, going to the casino with friends and family, and poker tournaments with Mike were her latest pastimes. And Mary had the Midas touch!
Survivors include: children, Stacie Del Rio (Paul) of Topeka, Lorelei Ammons (Mike) of Topeka, Kristen Weber (Paul) Castle Rock, CO; siblings, Joe McGreevy (Patsy) of Topeka, Karen McGreevy of Wichita, Tim McGreevy (Anne) of Wichita, Mike McGreevy (Denise) of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Ashlyn Wittman (Jeremy Mansfield) of Topeka, Michael Meier of Topeka, Thomas Wittman (Samone) of Topeka, Marcus Meier (Logan) of Topeka, Ryan Baker (Lisa Cruz) of Denver, CO, Kyle Baker (Mikaela Miller) of Englewood, CO, Katie Meier (Tyler Maendele) of Kansas City; great-grandchildren Landry and Alexander Wittman of Topeka; sons of her heart, Gavin Wittman and Tom Meier of Topeka, KS, Rick Baker of Beggs, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, William Emmett McGreevy, Jr., Kenneth McGreevy (Alberta), Patrick McGreevy, Herbert McGreevy (JoAnne), Rosalie McGreevy, former husband and lifelong friend, Roger Morphew, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family is planning Celebration of Life ceremonies online and in person in Cascade, CO, which will be announced via social media.

Mary was the sister I never had. She was so very special to me and my family. We had so much fun together, probably getting into trouble had we met at a young age. We loved being together going to Cripple Creek( her idea) traveling in Europe in 2019 along with some of my family she finally saw Paris and Normandy where she stood on Omaha Beach and we prayed for the many souls whose lives were lost there in WWII. Mary had the biggest heart for not only family and friends but her four legged friends like Buckaroo. . She kept my little dog, Cricket, when I had to be gone. He didn’t want to come home after being with Mary. She was my wonderful bridge partner and travelled via ship on a bridge cruise to Hawaii several years ago. All in all no one. Could be more loved than my previous Sister, Mary McGreevy. I love you dear and will see you soon💕💕

Mary gave me 2 special gifts in my life! Her nurturing strong advice as a 19 year old girl just learning the ropes in correctional healthcare, and the best friend anyone on earth can ever have with Lori. Mary gifting me such a beautiful woman, friend, and partner has allowed me to reach goals I never could have imagined and without these 2 strong women I would not be who I am today. I love you and will miss your beautiful smile Mary. And Lori spray for your and your beautiful family

Mary was such a great sister in law to me! We had wonderful traveling experiences together especially our trip to South Dakota, our special times at Emlen and Pawhuska Powwows. I loved her adventurous spirit and love of horses too as well as sharing time with her sweet Buckaroo! She is so missed!

I had the pleasure of travelling to Exuma in the Bahamas with Mary, Lori, and Mike about 9 years ago. We had such a great time, trying different foods, visiting many beaches and just plain hanging out. It was one of my favorite trips and Mary sure had a lot to do with the success of the trip. I will miss her.
