Jacqueline Greta Schmidtke was a caring mother, daughter, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on April 3rd 2020 at the age of 51. She was born to Thomas Hurst and Mitzi Hurst on March 15 1969 in Red Deer, Alberta.
She leaves behind her daughters Jennifer and Jessica, Mother Mitzi, Step Mother Barb, Sister Yvette and Grand daughter Paige, she is predeceased by her husband Layne, son Tyler and by her father Tom.
Jacqueline was always academically driven, graduating high school early and pursed a degree in Human Resources and Payroll.
She married and met my father Layne when she was 18 years old. A few years later they had two twin daughters, Jessica and Jennifer. She lost her husband Layne in 1991. She always told me he was the love of her life.
In 1994, she gave birth to a son named Tyler. Sadly he passed away shortly after coming into this world. She definitely had her share of tragedy in this life. She was an incredibly strong woman who overcame many hardships and obstacles. She always chose to keep trying and persevering in the face of adversity. It was the choice she made everyday for herself and her children to keep going, to keep moving forward on the days she probably didn’t feel like it.
Jacqueline had one of the biggest hearts. She went above and beyond what was necessary in this life to make sure those around her we’re happy and comfortable. She touched the lives of so many people. I remember when we were young, that my mom’s house, our house was the house to be at. It was the house where all us young children gathered, played and spent all our time. She made it such a comfortable, safe, fun place to be that everyone gravitated towards her home. She not only went out of her way to make sure Jennifer and I had everything we needed but made sure our friends always felt at home and had everything they needed. Since her passing I’ve had many friends of mine tell me that she saved their life or was like a second mother to them. And I know they mean it because she was an extraordinarily wonderful human being.
Jacqueline had a passion for painting and horses. Her passion for horses was lifelong, something she shared with Jennifer and I. Her passion for painting came later in her life. She was very talented and painting brought her great happiness.
She was truly one of a kind, with a one of a kind laugh and zest for life. She brought joy and warmth to every room she entered. She will be immensely missed by all who knew her. The world lost one of the greats when she left this world and it will never shine as bright.

Our family was blessed to have known Jackie. She was caring, kind, and always made everyone feel welcome. Her love for family and friends showed through her actions, always willing to step up and help anytime she could. She welcomed Robert, Rocco, and Joseph into her family with open arms. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family

Jackie was an amazing woman who cared for and offered help to anyone she crossed paths with. She was a huge part of getting me the help I needed when I was struggling and owe alot of my success in life now to her help and guidance. She was a definitely the type of person the world needs more of. She will be missed.

Jackie was a good friend at work. I’ve missed our many chats and our sushi lunches. I still miss her so much. I will never forget that she made a special trip into the office during Covid with her great Dane just so I could meet him. I will never forget her.

I’ll always remember Jackie for her big smile and her kindness. She surprised me one day, I just had a baby and she drove over to my place with a sweet little onesie as a gift. She was always so nice to me and that just showed how really thoughtful she was. I’ll always remember her fun and kind spirit and how much she loved her girls.

Jackie was my second mom. Without her love and support after I came out as gay and had conflict at home, I wouldn’t be alive today. She was also an amazing friend.. I will never forget Jackie and the role she played in helping me become the man I am today. Thank you for everything Jackie- rest well.
