Henry James Pinto passed away of old age on December 29th 2020 at the age of 83. A memorial service will be held in his honor on January 9th 2020 at 10 AM EST, 8:30 PM IST.
Henry was born on August 8th 1937 to John Baptist Pinto and Cecelia Pinto. He grew up in Kinnigoli, Mangalore and spent his youth surrounded by a large and close family. Henry was the oldest sibling of 10, and he has a close relationship with his brothers and sisters that he maintained throughout his life.
He moved to Mumbai after college and that was when he met his wife Barbara Pinto. As the months and years passed they got to know each other, fell in love and were married on May 3rd 1969.
Henry and Barbara lived in Mumbai for a few years after marriage. He was a hard worker and a natural leader and his career was progressing well in Mumbai when he got an opportunity to relocate with a new job in Dubai. Both Henry and Barbara were ready for an adventure and they made the move which they never regretted as it led to several years of a good life in the Middle East. Henry worked hard and his career culminated in him being the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Jashanmal National Company in the UAE.
Henry always took the time to spend with his family and friends and some of our fondest memories are visiting every year with relatives and traveling internationally on vacations. Henry was a sportsman and excelled in his younger years in football, cricket and volleyball. He also loved watching sports especially boxing, cricket and tennis. He would love to follow cricket matches on TV and would take his family and friends to watch the matches in person in the tournaments that occurred yearly in Dubai.
He was an extremely charitable person and he always took the time to help people in need. He helped people at work, helped family and friends and his selflessness was the attribute that we most remember him for. He was was also a lot of fun and his sense of mischief and humor was contagious. People loved to be around him.
Henry is survived by his wife Barbara Pinto who lives in Mumbai and his two sons Prakash who lives in Singapore and Arun who lives in New York. Henry is also survived by 2 grandchildren Maya and Sean who he loved dearly.

Dear Henry will always have a very special place in our family.
We have so many wonderful memories all through the years.
He was warm, kind, helpful, large hearted & a fun loving person with a twinkle in his eyes.
We will miss him and will always remember him with great fondness.

We remember Henry with great respect. He was a good man, who reached out to people in need. Our prayers are with Barbara, his beloved wife, who was by his side in good times and bad. Our prayers are with Arun, his family and Prakash. May God give them strength to carry on.

As a five-year-old, I was a rather regular child, and my three year old brother was the same. My aunt, a teacher at Saint Joseph, was a dear friend of Barbara Ma’am as we lovingly call her. It was my aunt Surekha who introduced us to Barbara Ma’am, and it is because of her that my brother and I are such lovely students today. I remember my tiny five year old frame seeing Uncle Henry for the first time, tall as ever and full of laughter and smiles. As a child, he would greet my brother and I as we showed up for class, sleep in our eyes and education on our minds. Due to this lock down, we were unable to visit Barbara Ma’am, and so, we didn’t get to see him in 2020. It’s sad to hear about his passing, but may he continue to smile and be his cheerful self in Heaven, for it must certainly have become a brighter place with his presence. May his soul rest in peace.

To Barbara, Arun n family n Prakash, we extend our heartfelt condolences and know fully well the loving treasure Henry has been, and will always be.
To his close family, brothers, sisters, cousins, children and acquaintances, the bond and example he set for all is truly an awesome benchmark.
Henry was a man of many dimensions, admirable in every way, by one and all. He was a good man who will be loved and remembered fondly always.

It was good to have known Henry back from years in Dubai and then in Bombay and at times even in Mangalore. Sad we lost him here on earth but we’ll meet him some time in heaven. May his soul rest in peace.

Henry Pinto was a wonderful person, a dear friend, a wonderful, selfless human being and a kind hearted person. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was generous and charitable. I have fond memories of his amazing sense of humour and the great friendship that he and his wife, Barbara had with Royston and myself. We will surely miss Henry. May God grant him Eternal Rest

I first met Uncle Henry in the year 2000 when I married into the family. We hit it off from day one – both Uncle Henry and Aunty Barbara were warm, friendly human beings with a great sense of humour and the ability to make everybody feel welcome.
Today it is with a sense of wistfulness that I recall my long conversations with Uncle Henry on virtually every topic under the sun. He used to love to regale us with his stories from Dubai and also anecdotes from Prakash and Arun’s childhood. Being a foodie, he was the go-to-person for a recommendation – but street food and knowledge about tiny eateries tucked away in the lanes and by-lanes of Mumbai were his forté. Cricket is another subject he was passionate about and especially when a season was on, we could go on for hours discussing players and strategies during the few times that we met.
Christmas lunch at the Aranha house in Bandra, Mumbai, was when the whole family would gather together and it was a riot spread over a few hours, with Uncle Henry being the centre of attraction with his joking, teasing and his distinctive laugh.
It was sad to see him become a shadow of himself last year and I regret that I could not visit him these last few months due to the lockdown.
Uncle Henry, you are no more with us but I do believe that you are in a special place in Heaven, still regaling everybody with your stories and your jokes. Will always remember you as you always were, tall, strapping, handsome with a story for every occasion. I pray that you find eternal rest in the arms of your Father!

You will always be remembered as a kind hearted and jovial man, a great brother and friend to dad and mum and an amazing uncle to Len and myself. We have so many lovely memories to cherish and are ever grateful for our cousins Arun and Prakash. Much to learn from aunty who has laughed through good times and bad. You will never be forgotten!
