Elma Joy Melvin Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elma Joy Melvin. She passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 13th, 2024 at the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
Elma leaves behind her husband Shawn, children Jordan (Carly) and Jessica (Jordan), and grandchildren June and Oaklan.
Elma was Born March 26, 1967 in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, and was the youngest of six children. At the age of 17 she moved across the world to Vancouver, Canada where she worked as a nanny and nurse. In 1992 she married her husband Shawn Melvin and they moved to Vernon, where they raised their family and she lived the rest of her days. Elma enjoyed music, good food, and her many animals, but above all loved God.
Elma will be dearly missed by her family and friends she leaves behind.

Fond memories of the times that Wull and I had with Joan and Elma in our younger days. I can still hear Elma’s infectious laugh and miss the great music we had. We didn’t know Elma personally. However we are so thankful to have known Barbie and Dennis from their travels to Maui!! They have been such an inspiration to us! The verse that was brought out in the service, Romans 8:28 is a verse that has been such a help to us in life!! I listened to Elma’s funeral service last night. The house was quiet and the moon was out lighting up some clouds! I was thankful for the beautiful sweet song we heard from Elma’s life! She didn’t let the difficult experiences in life alter her song or steal her song. Instead with God she was able to reach the high notes with such sweetness! Glad will be your comfort in days ahead because it’s what she would have trusted God with.

Special thoughts go to the Melvin Family. You don’t know us, but we know some of Elma’s family very well/Joan and Ian Black and John and Anne Flett. It has been very special to watch the livestream from our home here in Glen Innes, NSW, Australia. We are so thankful to know of God’s precious way in the earth and thankful especially to those who have finished safely and inspire us to keep true to the end. We met Elma briefly in July 2022 when we called in to say hello on our way to the airport to fly home. Keith Campbell, our brother in law, took us there. Elma was like a second mother to Cailee & I. I’ve often thought of how many times she must have rocked me to sleep as a baby while rocking my own children to sleep now. Elma was such a sweet soul, all she ever wanted was everyone around her to be happy and she did exactly that. You would rarely find anyone walking away from her without a smile on their face. It was a pleasure working alongside her and the Melvin family at Beachcomber for a few years, she left an impression on everyone she met.

My parents loved to go to your home for Sunday morning and we too love to be there when we would come to visit my folks. Shawn, Dallas and I are thinking of you and your family during this sad time. Elma was always a joy to be around and you knew there would always be a smile and a hug when you saw her. She was a very special person.

Elma nursed me when I was having surgery in South Tyrone Hospital , Dungannon. She came out to visit with us on her free days . Great girl ,always smiling . Wonderful memories .

A lovely lady, bright and cheerful, always bolstering every one she met, with a heavy heart, we heard the news, yet we know she would want us all to keep joyful in her memory, my thoughts go to all her family and friends and extended family, our dear cousin Elma!
