Lovely to watch this service of a lovely , Godly woman. Our memories are of her and her families visit to our house when Graham lived with us in Edmonton for a while. Graham was excited for us to meet his parents and his twin sisters then in grade 11. A close, loving family. We also visited them at their place in Duncan and got the grande tour and fine hospitality and got to meet Grandma too.
Your Mother looked happy in every picture and certainly radiated from her life too. She has so much to go on to now. You had wonderful parents.

Thank you so much for sharing this service. Although I never knew Elaine personally, I discovered she was a jewel in God’s garden and I loved her testimony. I could see it from 1st glance how clear her eyes always appeared. Undoubtedly she came from good stock and I see the wholesomeness of all her friends and family. What a beautiful treasure. May the Lord bless you all.

I am truly thankful, for having known Elaine, as said, her smile was contagious, her Love for Truth glowed from her.
She was so sweet and caring, and her helping hands were so full of patience!
My Sympathy to all her family and her friends.
There is a new beautiful rose in Heaven, waiting with others in the garden, to bloom into the bride of Christ our Lord.

Such a beautiful service and a beautiful soul! Precious memories. My mom and Dad are in a nursing home. But my mom Angie I wish I lived next door to let her watch this service. I didn’t know that where my mom met your mom was Armstrong and Vernon days. My mom was with Mabel who met your mom under the Eiffel tower! Mom always talked of that and the Europe days!

So many special memories for you all that will keep and encourage you in days to come.. I remember Elaine especially at convention and her warm, welcoming smile but so enjoyed hearing more of her life and testimony today. Dear Family: The names, MR. PHILLIPS [Gordon], principal of the “Sir ? Fleming School” on 49th & Knight Rd., Vancouver, and MISS OPENSHAW [Elaine] were introduced to me in 1964…..5 years before I professed. My niece & *nephew, were students in that school. A month after I professed, 1969, I met ELAINE at a Sing-song that her mom, “HOPPING LENA [as she was nick-named]” & Elaine hosted. A sweet memory that I have of Elaine is this:- I don’t recall the year, but the TWINS were very very young at this Duncan convention! I said to Elaine, “HOW in the world can you tell them apart??!!” Her reply, “I CAN’T!! I have to look BEHIND their ears…one has a small birthmark & I know it is, & then she named the twin.” 🙂 !! On our 1st visit, I felt Elaine was a “True Blue”….loving The Truth!! AND she never waivered in her choice! She’s “hung her ‘shield of faith’ in victory!” I loved what Judy mentioned about Elaine’s ‘passing’ as “Elaine’s Moving-day”. A great comfort to family & all!!
*Yesterday, THIS nephew said: “In my album, I have a photo of MISS OPENSHAW. The caption reads: “MY FAVORITE TEACHER.” :-)!!
Thots & prayers are there with you dear family. Lotsa love… Betty Hredil, Penticton, B.C.

    Hello Folks!
My memories, go back, before your parents came to Duncan. I think of Charlie and Verna. And the great excitement that convention on the island meant to each heart that participated, in preparing for convention.
So, happy to look back, and realize all that Elaine and Laverne gave from their heart and soul.

Thank you for live streaming her service so that we could “attend” . Loved all the pictures, the Grandkids clips, and the video from your Dad’s service with Elaine playing the piano and you three “kids” on the violins. Hard to believe that both your Mom and Dad are gone now. Thoughts and prayers with all of you. Liz and Ron Sens. (Elaine’s cousin and husband)

To my Dempster and Openshaw relatives,
Thank you so much for allowing those of us who couldn’t make it today to be part of “Auntie” Elaine’s memorial. She was such a positive influence on all who crossed her path. I am so grateful for all the memories I have of our visits when I was younger. You may not know but at my wedding she stepped in at the last minute to play the song I wanted to walk down the aisle too. When our pianist friend panicked. I will forever be grateful for that! Sending you all so much love.

Just last week I woke our visiting granddaughters with “wakee, wakee, rise and shine,. It’s daylight in the swamp”. This was what Elaine said to me when she woke me up, when I stayed in her and her mom’s home, in 1970. As I said this that morning , I thought of Elaine and little did I realize that she would soon be wending her way to her Heavenly home. We met at Silverdale conventions and have been friends since. Elaine was a very positive person always cheerful, funny and with a welcoming spirit. Her congenial and exuberant nature was her Hallmark . She was a friend to all and a friend for all seasons.. To Elaine’s children, Graeme, Cheryl and Shawna, and to Elaine’s brothers, Ron and Robert, we extend our sincere condolences.

My first memories are visiting and staying at Elaine’s family’s home in Vernon.. After High School Graduation, Elaine moved to Vancouver and settled in at her “2nd home”, the Cormick house (see Ronald Cormick below). For us young folks in the city, Cormick’s was “Action-Central” and Elaine was a “spark” in those activities. After UBC training, Elaine taught at two schools where my Dad was the principal and she quickly became known as a “cracker-jack” teacher (see Gordon Phillips below). The years have passed so quickly and it is very hard to say “Good-bye”.
We are thankful for so many fond memories of Elaine and for her encouraging influence.

This is my third try at this… i just don’t know how to express myself at this loss but it’s my own fault. Elaine was my “sister”. Born in the same year and month. Years living in the same home. Ron and Robert are “brothers”. We lived and loved and laughed and cried together as a family does. We even graduated from UBC together. I went off to Oklahoma to grad school, later married, onto Pennsylvania then back to OK, started a family in ’73 and finally to TX. Elaine and Lavern started a family shortly after us. Time, distance and a busy life — we saw less and less of each other. But, I’ve always been encouraged in my spiritual life by knowing about Elaine’s stability, love, and honesty without any hypocracy. Now my sister has gone to the home she’s always kept in focus as a first priority. Now all my sisters from my earthly childhood home except my sister, Laverna, have departed. Elaine’s example will live on, through family and friends. For all of you left behind, I deeply feel your/our loss. If Pat wasn’t so seriously disabled I would be able to leave for a few days and be there at the funeral. We’re praying, with confidence, that you/we will feel the Comforter’s presence.

Oh dear Dempster family! Special thoughts go your way! My dad and I are sending deep condolences and love your way! Elaine was a special person to our family. For many reasons. She was a teacher in my dad’s schools in Vancouver. He hired her right out of UBC. Some of her students still speak of her!
She was a friend to all 5 of us!
A faithful lady and an inspiration and example to us!!
We are thinking of you all at this time!!

Elaine will be remembered as a very close friend starting way back with activities at Corrmicks! When Elaine and Lavern were married they lived in a apartment very close to my parents home in N Burnaby and we saw them frequently ! She was my piano teacher for a time and I still benefit from her teaching skills. After I married and started raising a family we would spend many days and evenings at cornroasts and music nights with her unflagging hospitality all around us ! Even as her health was failing her good friend Irene would bring Elaine to our Radom music evenings and she would heartily sing hymns by memory. Her love for Gods kingdom will inspire me for ages to come
Thankful she has crossed the bar where tears and pain have no place.
    Sincerely
    Norwood

Having been recipients of Elaine and Laverne’s gracious care and hospitality as many others, it was very special to return a little of it when they stopped with us here in Bergen, Norway a few years ago. We shared the sweetest fellowship together as ever, so good to think back on. With gratitude from Mark and Olaug

Dear Elaine, a lively lovely lady full of energy and kindness. We enjoyed the Openshaws back in their Vernon days and ever since. I have sweet memories of her travel stories, her wedding, and helping in their move to Duncan. Through it all, Elaine was a faithful example to follow.
