It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Melvin, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He sustained a critical injury at home and passed away Thursday April 14th at the Vernon Hospital with his family and loved ones by his side.
Dennis leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Barbie Melvin, mother Fern Melvin, his 3 children Shawn (Elma), Kent (Linette) and Bryce (Charrisa); his 5 grandchildren Jordan (Carly), Jessica (Jordan Jensen), Katrina (Jesse Pearman), Juanna (Tanner King), and Victoria as well as one great granddaughter June. Dennis was predeceased by his daughter Karla and father Clifford.
He was born in New Westminster Hospital to Clifford & Fern Melvin on January 13th, 1948. He was the first of four children, Brent (Rita), Dale (Sandy), and Arden (John Howard) followed. Dennis was in business for over 50 years in the Okanagan area with various family members. Dennis was a well-loved man that had many passions in life. His love for God was undeniable. He loved his wife and family dearly. He loved to fish, enjoyed cooking for family and friends, had a great love for his garden and yard. He considered his work to be his hobby and everyone that he worked with at Beachcomber was treated as family. He and Barbie loved to travel and spent much time in Maui.
Special thank you to the first responders who worked tirelessly and the staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (ICU). Also thank you for the text messages, emails, phone calls, flowers, and food. We really appreciate the love and support.

Our deepest sympathies to the Melvin family. Our first connection to them was through Kent & Linette and Linette’s parents, Alex & Isabelle Howden. We met Fern & Clifford in Hawaii, have experienced warm fellowship in Dennis & Barbie’s home and perhaps feel an extra special connection, as we have both lost teenage children. The gap in your family circle here will be keenly felt. We are so thankful that your friend is the God of all comfort.

Dear Barbie and family, we were shocked and greatly saddened to hear of Dennis’s passing while we were in Europe. Memories of you folks coming to our Wednesday evening meeting came to mind, as well as the occasional Sunday morning at your home and the great help you and Dennis were to us. There was certainly very sweet fellowship. It’s wonderful to know that we can trust in the God of all comfort to be to us all that we need in life’s sorrows. Our love to you.

Hard to really grasp that Dennis has gone on ahead of us.
