Betty Luciel Gregg Obituary
Betty was born in Piapot, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1928 to Ira Guy and Mary Ethel (nee Crawford) Gregg. She was predeceased by all of her siblings; Margaret, Lola, Albert and Loren. Betty passed away on September 25, 2023 in Langley, BC.
In 1935 the Gregg family moved to Creston, BC, where, in her words, “My parents purchased land and built a log house in the little district of West Creston where there wasn’t even a little store. I had a happy childhood in the country…”
Betty achieved a grade 12 education, and did three years of secretarial work in Creston. In 1944, age 16, she made her choice to serve God, and in 1948 offered to spend her life in Christian ministry. She spent the rest of her active life in this ministry, 17 years in Hong Kong, the remainder in Western Canada, until in 2014 she was forced by failing strength and health to reside at Langley Gardens.
To her final days, she supported her beloved ministry in every way she could, surrounded by loving friends and encouraging her family. She loved much and was loved by many.

Words cannot do justice to the service/ Praise God for that life of example to us left here, May God be the Glory as he hasn’t forgotten us and has eternity prepared for us to fellowship with Aunt Betty and praise him with the Saints in Heaven.

Even though we couldn’t attend the funeral, glad we could watch it later. We felt encouraged and inspired.

When I think of and remember Aunty Betty, the first word that always comes to mind is ‘Love’. Aunty Betty radiated love, warmth and kindness. She always had a special smile and a hug and always just seemed to know what to say to lift your spirit. It was a privilege to know her, to love her to sit in her gospel meetings to be around her.

We sometimes hear that we preach our own funeral service. Aunty Betty certainly did. A lovely service for such a wonderful servant of God. So thankful for all the times we had the privilege of having her in our home. Such a Godly influence because of the Spirit of God having control over her life. She was indeed a true and impartial, faithful friend.

I had the special privilege of listening to Betty’s funeral with the Sisters in our field. I am David Jury’s mother and David shared that Betty was one of the most Kind and Tenderhearted people he knew.

When I think of Auntie Betty I think of her Gracefull Spirit..She was a true example of a Godly Lady and true Servant..She will be missed.

We have special memories of the times when Betty stayed in our home.
Once she came to Merritt with blackberries from “the coast” so we could make a pie together! And she brought us a colander from her sister Lola’s place after I mentioned that ours had gone with the fire. We used it just the other day and thought of her kindness and thoughtfulness again.

I haven’t seen Auntie Betty for many years, but I will always remember her kind, loving, gracious spirit. It was a privilege to watch her service.

I remember Auntie Betty since I was almost 4 when she was in our field with Auntie Grace. I don’t remember a word she spoke to me at that time but I still remember her and Aunt Grace’s love.
Eric and I were honored to have her in our field and in our home many times and are glad our children got to know the same Auntie Betty! Now our grandchildren have had the same privilege and we long that her Godly influence will stay with all of us for the rest of our lives.

It was my first year in the fellowship 39 years ago that Merna Knudson introduced me to Betty On the Monday after Portage convention, Merna brought Betty to our home in Winnipeg for afternoon tea. She and Merna had been companions previously in Hong Kong. I was so touched by Betty’s warmth and easy manner, and touched many times since by her inclusiveness toward us in various times, places and circumstances. Genuine, comforting and Spirit led is how I think of dear Betty. Hymn 344 ‘Dear Saviour, leave me not alone…’ was also Merna’s forvorite hymn of all time … perhaps they sung it together many times while in Hong Kong. Such an encouraging, inspiring life.

It’s been a privilege to follow along from a distance today as each of us entered into our own precious memories of what Auntie Betty has been to us through the years. For all that we didn’t get to see her so often, we were able to pick up where we’d left off and she made every one of her friends feel that she had special feelings for them….always wholesome and edifying.

Aunty Betty was my first worker when I joined this meeting. That time I had just immigrated, and could understand only a little English.
But she always had a smile on her face, and I could feel warm and stable. She always tried to encourage me. I’ll never forget her smile and am thankful for that I had Aunty Betty as a worker.

When our son married Betty’s great neice, she spoke about maintaining a “bee hive” during their marriage. The first “bee” was be kind. She was a constant example of that “bee”. We are grateful to have known her.

So dear Betty has received her home call. When in Japan we had the privilege of having Betty visit us in our Bach. A very memorable time and also I enjoyed time with her in Hong Kong. She has left a wonderful testimony.

Betty was my very special companion in HongKong.
In 1974, when I finished my language study at school.
She was my dear companion.
I was struggling with the new language, she helped me in many ways with her loving kind gentle and grecious godly spirit.
I will never forget that year with her.
In 1989, I had a privilege to attend conventions over there.
Without realizing, I had privige to share a room with Betty at Salmonarm convention time!
In 2014, I had the second time to attend conventions over there. At #2 Glanvally convention time I had another privilege to share room with the local staff where Betty was also.
My niece Yoonee Pahk, was in BC as an exchange sister Worker from Korea, she visited her two or three times. Every time she vallued her visit.
We will miss her here but the sweet memories will live in our hearts. Many thanks for this space to express for my memories of Betty. Heaven will get richer and our Home Land.

I first met Betty many years ago at one of our Conventions. Actually, I met her several times. I don’t remember what she spoke on, but I remember her Godly Spirit and influence. I can still feel the influence of her Spirit. She was a Godly example to all of us.

It was in 2018 that I had the privilege of meeting Betty for the first time and had many visits with her after that, in person when I was in BC while my mother lived, last spring being our last visit, shortly before my mother passed.
