I’m a hiker friend from Berkeley who only knew Barbara long enough to do a few hikes, join with her for a few book club dinners and sample those great cookies for which she gave me the recipe. I sent a cookie tribute to her, via a friend, when we learned of her illness. It was a great, tearful honor to be able to see her family in the wonderful memorial tribute today. Thank you for making it possible.

What a honor for me to be part of this celebration and to remember Barbara James in the midst of her loved ones. I knew her through her children – mainly my dear friend Jenny. She raised the most intelligent, caring, sensitive and talented children. The values she imparted in them spread to all those around them. The ripple effects of Barbara James will carry on well beyond her life of earth. Rest in peace dear Mrs James. Sincerely, Chitra Deshpande

I met Barbara many times through my dear friend Jocelyn. She was the picture of grace and always kind, calm and bright. I always wished to know her better than I did. I am so grateful to be able to join the memorial service, albeit remotely, to learn more about her and her life. What an incredible woman. It is a joy to hear you speak about her. This memorial has me both laughing and in tears. You have done a wonderful job remembering and honoring her. Thank you for arranging this livestream.
Love, Amy

Thank you all for inviting me to this beautiful memorial. Jenny’s mom and dad welcomed me into their kitchen many times over the years, initially as Jenny’s freshman roommate and later in our long friendship. I hold them in my heart and memory. Love to Jenny and family in this time of loss.

Barbara was an incredible person. Although I only met her at Ali and Tom’s wedding.. I instantly recognized what a unique and wonderful woman she was.. She was the most amazing Mother. to her gifted children. and grandchildren.
I send my deepest sympathy to the family. Ann Joseph
