Barbara Gunn Obituary
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara (Langler) Gunn, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2026, at the age of 93. Barbara was born in 1932 in Oakland, CA, and grew up there with her younger brother, Jim. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Bert Gunn. Together, they shared nearly 68 wonderful years of marriage, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. Barbara and Bert also shared a lifelong passion for the University of California Golden Bears football team, faithfully cheering on the team every football season and attending in person for the “big game” against Stanford.
Barbara and Bert valued and were present for their five children’s and nine grandchildren’s milestones, including high school graduations, college graduations, weddings, and meeting their 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara was the one to call to get updates on what was happening with relatives and siblings’ families. As Barbara’s and Bert’s own mothers aged, they would regularly take road trips to their homes to help them both out, making sure they were cared for as long as they lived.
As their own children left the nest, Barbara joined the workforce as a new accounts representative, teller, and other support as needed at Bank of America, serving her customers’ banking needs for 20 plus years. Barbara and Bert found time to travel and visit Hawaii, Tahoe, and Tahiti, their favorite vacation. They took overseas trips with Bert’s brother and wife to China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Also visiting places of their ancestors: England, where Barbara’s dad/parents are from, Scotland (Gunn clan), and Germany (Bert’s mom’s relatives).
Once retired, Barbara and Bert moved to Lincoln, CA. At the community center for their neighborhood, Barbara even got Bert to try line dancing with her. They became members of the St. James Episcopal Church, where Barbara volunteered for many years as Lead Altar Guild Director. She enjoyed preparing seasonal flower arrangements and other details for the services that she shared with us in photos she took.
Barbara had a wonderful sense of style. She was fastidious about her appearance and took great pride in always being impeccably dressed. Known affectionately as a fashionista, Barbara carried herself with elegance, confidence, and grace wherever she went.
Barbara was preceded in death by her dear husband, Bert, who passed away in May 2019, son Robert, who passed away in August 2013, and granddaughter, Tiffanie White, who passed away in October 2015.
Barbara had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved. Her wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her legacy of love, service, and grace will continue to live on through her children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends whose lives she touched.
