Ann Marie Sommerville Obituary
Ann Marie (Georgeann) Sommerville of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Reading, PA, and St. Leonard, MD passed away peacefully on 16 September 2024, cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Marianne Sommerville and Basil Hero. Ann Marie was 90 years old and died of natural causes in her own home. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 11, 1933, to George and Daisy Bazil.
She was the devoted wife of Ian M. Sommerville for 58 years before his passing in 2013 at age 80. Together they raised three daughters, Dr. Sommerville, Carolyn (Cara) Wohr who lives in Lake Dallas, Texas with her partner Stephen Wohr and Elaine Hoffa, who died of leukemia in 1985. She loved spending time with her 10 grandchildren including Pieter Koonings who died tragically in a motor vehicle accident at age 14.
A natural in cosmetology, Ann Marie had a special gift for making others feel and look their best. She continued working until she was 80 years old.
Her hobbies included sailing with Ian, playing bridge and tending to her numerous cats.
Ann Marie will be remembered for her biting sense of humor and her ability to bring joy and laughter to any gathering. At her 90th birthday her granddaughter Stephanie asked her what her recommendation was for living so long and she said, “Just have fun!”
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.

We have known Georgeanna since Jeremy was little. and enjoyed her sense of humor. She loved Jeremy greatly and was always watching out for him. We still laugh when we see pointed women’s shoes because she called them “cockroach killers” because you can kill a cockroach easily when they run into a corner. She was game for most anything, even coming to our house and getting up the 40 steps to the front door. Our son, Sam, would visit her often when she lived in Reading and then would regale us with stories of the fun they had together. We will miss her.

During some of my darkest days her logic, whit, and larger than life sense of humor was an amazing gift in life… I always knew that I could always take her call or pick her up anytime… she would pick a restaurant and the laughs and her blunt in your face no holds bared logical advise would begin immediately. It was so fun watching her go back and fourth with the staff wherever we went it was fun for her… she would set them straight from the door. No matter how blue of a day i thought it was she worked better than medicine every time I loved hearing her yelling out “She’s Crazy!!!! All she wants is your money!!!” or “Cry me a river… What are you going to do about it??? NOTHING!!!” I never stopped shaking my head or dying of laughter… I am thankful to have had so many of those opportunities to hang out with her on Jeromys behalf was an honor for me I will not forget. Thank you

Love you, Grandma!

Georgian accomplished so much with no headstart in life. She could be challenging, but she knew how to enjoy life and it was impossible not to love her.

Our Aunt Georgeann was always spontaneous, unfiltered, and outspoken, on almost any topic. You never knew what she was about to say but whatever came out of her mouth, her mind, and her heart was consistently thoughtful, engaging and entertaining.
I don’t recall what she would say when something was a bit controversial. It seems like she always followed it up with something like, “Well, anyway, that’s what I think.”

Georgeann was a loving mom, spouse and friend. She had a lot of personality, and while she could be exasperating, it was hard not to love her!
