Obituary of Sherri Price
Sherilyn Georgina Price was born at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver on May 28, 1949 to Stan and Ruby Shenton of Kelvington Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of the four girls in the Shenton family.
In August of 1958 the family moved to Kelowna and then after 6 years to Summerland where Sherri graduated from high school in 1967. She began nurse’s training at Royal Inland Hospital and graduated in 1970. She worked as a nurse in Prince George for part of the year and then moved to Calgary to be near her future husband.
In April of 1973 Sherri married Calvin Price in Summerland. Calvin and Sherri had been friends since 1958 and attended the same schools and even were in some of the same classes from Grade 4 to 9. They began their married life in Vernon and then moved to Kamloops in 1976. Sherri worked as an operating room nurse back in Royal Inland Hospital for 3 years until their oldest son Desmond was born in 1979. In 1981 their son Sheldon was born. Sherri put her nursing career on hold and was a full time Mom until the boys were teenagers.
In 1999 Calvin and Sherri moved to downtown Vancouver when Calvin was transferred with his work. For the fourth time to accommodate her husband’s career, Sherri found work as an operating room nurse at the hospital a few blocks away from where she was born. She completed her nursing career at Vancouver General in 2007.
Sherri passed away suddenly on the morning of March 15, 2023 in her sleep. Sherri leaves to mourn her husband of almost 50 years, her sons Desmond (Amy) and Sheldon (Alexandra), her sisters Eleanor (Al) Habicht and Betty (Norm) Anderson, and sister-in-law Carolyn (Floyd) Dickson. She was predeceased by her dear sister Gwen (Neil) Hagen in 2011. She will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews and her many friends. She was a kind and true friend to so many.
Sherri made a commitment to serve the Lord in 1961 beside her sister Betty at Smeaton Convention and from that day forward the Truth and Love of God became her life until her recent passing.
Sherri’s final resting place will be in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

I first met Sherry and her 3 sibs and parents in, I think, 1956 at Terrace. I learned a bit about Badminton. Over the years we have met, mostly at conventions, but that time at Terrace has not been forgotten. Donna and I send our deepest condolences to Calvin and sons, as well as the entire family.

Dear Calvin, family & extended family….When I heard of Sherri’s sudden passing, the very first thot that came to mind was: “Where God puts a period, we dare not put a question-mark.” This is our ‘late’ dear ‘Uncle Jack’ Price’s gem. God does not always DO these ‘experiences’ but PERMITS them to happen. The last sentence of that beautiful poem: “THE MASTER WEAVER”: “The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver’s skillful hands, as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.” Especially you, Cal & boys… may we all find deep comfort in those precious words that were penned so many years ago. Sherrie was in our class at Royal Inland Hospital and although she lived on a different floor and had her own circle of friends, we nevertheless were often thrown together working a shift in the hospital. In fact we were on duty in the delivery room one early morning, when suddenly the woman we were in charge of had to deliver. There was no doctor at such a last minute and together we delivered a baby! That was our claim to fame at that time! What a lovely, competent and composed student nurse I remember. I have not seen Sherrie for years and years. Yet I was jolted to hear the news of this sudden loss from another classmate. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Calvin and her lovely family and friends. Please accept my sincere sympathy and best wishes at this very difficult time.

We have known Sherri as a young girl, from 1956 when they lived in Terrace, BC. We are thankful for her beautiful life, directed by God, the builder. She was an inspiration to us all.

Even though I met Sherri one time in my life, being a Family Physician in Kamloops I have known that She was an surgical assisting Nurse for many years. Sherri participated long daily hours within the Surgical Team saving and improving a large number of human beings so in my view she has guaranteed her place in the eternal HEAVEN.

Sherri was one of my best friends when I was young in Kelowna. I remember we dressed up in lace curtains and made floats to ride on. We rode our bicycles across the lake and ate snacks sitting on the hillside Among other things. I also remember you, Calvin from those days. I just know that you have been a kind and loving husband! It was a shock to hear of Sherri passing. She will certainly be missed. I remember her days of nursing in Prince George where I lived at that time. My first daughter’s 2nd name is Sherri mostly after our dear friend Sherri. She was so very kind and loving and thoughtful that everyone loved her .so much. I met Sherri when we both started our nursing program at RIH. She let me share a room with her for 3 years with kindness, encouragement, a sense of humour and warm smile. I was so blessed to know her..

Sherri was a classmate of mine in nursing school in Kamloops and we lived together at 101
Columbia St for our last year of education there. She was one of the kindest and most gentle persons I have known. Sherri was quite reserved but she had the greatest little giggle when something or someone made her laugh.
I was so looking foreward to seeing her at our delayed nursing reunion at Sun Peaks this May.

Words do fail me in wrapping my mind around the death of such a dear friend. Sherri and I were nurses a year apart in Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. We walked to Hegyis for meeting and enjoyed hours of wonderful visits. We were married 2 weeks apart in April of 1973. I remember her as a kind and cheerful friend and someone very spiritual and safe to be with. Cal you will miss her terribly. Gwen and I were in the same class at school. The Mcchesney’s also share Kelvington days with the Shenton’s when the Gospel came to that district in 1917. We can be so thankful for those early sisters Maude Slater and Annie Carson that brought the Gospel to our families.
