Dear Mrs. Odel Burke and family, it is with deep sorry that my wife and I send condolences. I have not seen Odel for a long time, but he and his family was always present on my mind. I look forward to that great resurrection day to see him again. In the meanwhile, I pray that his family will continue to live the legacy he has left behind. God is the giver of life and it is my belief that sometimes he opts to take the good ones ahead of the rest of us. So though its hard to accept that Tony is no longer living in the flesh among the rest of us sinners, I take comfort knowing that my brother, my friend, my coach, my sage, will be eternally there. Tony will be in the Lord’s house, watching over all of us. So I will not grieve, instead I choose to pray for Denise, Jason and Javion. I pray also for Mama Joyce as God gives her the strength to cope with the earthly departure of her ‘stalker’ son. I pray for Michelle who has been a tower of strength for the family. I pray for Molly, Michael and Sharrise, because I know who Tony was for each of you. Tony loved life, he lived in God’s peace, he shared God’s grace, and I will forever share my wonderful memories of Odel "Tony" Burke…forever in my heart.

    An Ode to Odel
    by Joan Burke-White

Odel fondly called Tony. Known by many names but to me you are Tony, my brother.
First time I met you I was inspired by your presence, strength, solitude and freedom. You excelled in solitude. Your true self evident in companionships.
Your drive and determination to succeed was noticeably, not only for yourself but family and acquaintances. Over the years you matured, loved, married, fathered, protected, and cared unselfishly.
Whether near or far, you took the time to find out the progress we were making. Advising and encouraging on steps to take in an effort to achieve more.
Tony, the calls will cease, the messages too, no more warm smiles, no laughter, no more stories, and no Brother Tony.
    But there is hope…
Your journey here on earth has ended. Sleep on. Rest for now. The trumpet will sound. We will see you in the rising.

Sadly missed but your memories live on. Take heart Family and find courage from the Comforter to guide us through the dark.

We are saddened by Tony’s passing and remembered him as a devout Christian who has touched the lives of many people.
Tony had a calm spirit, he was well-mannered and very passionate about his soccer game.

Long-time friend and teammate of my husband Robert, occasionally I would attend the games and I saw Tony playing and he was like a “Mack-truck”. Tony was very solid in stature.

Robert shared that during a soccer game an opponent who is Jamaican collided with him and knocked him to the ground. The opponent then jeered Robert that he’s not eating enough green bananas or yam. Robert shared with Tony what the opponent said to him.
Later, in the game the same opponent collided with Tony, the opponent fell flat on his back and was delirious for a few seconds. During his state of delirium, the opponent asked “a wah dat”. I am sure that the opponent thought that he was going to run through Tony.

Subsequently, it became known that If an opponent’s intention was to collide with Tony during the soccer game, they better be prepared for the consequence because the law of physics will not be on their side.

Odel, Tony, Dinky, our friend you will be missed.
    Sleep in Peace my brother.

Robert and I know that to lose a loved one is really a heart-wrenching feeling, but we know it’s even more heart wrenching for your wife, your children, your parents and siblings.

May God give your family peace, courage and strength during this difficult time.

Odel was a great friend and coworker. We shared the same office for many years, And exchanged proud moments about our sons. We managed the challenges of the job together, and broke tensions with plenty of love and laughter. It’s wonderful to hear that he loved Jesus, and to see his picture at baptism. Looking forward to see my brother again in glory. In the meantime may the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) be with you.
We love you, and we’re praying for you.
    Sincerely, Michael Benjamin, and family.

The Burke’s family has been apart of my family for the past 9 years. This is a family who is always there for us, especially Tony. I can remember when my husband was ill and underwent surgery, Tony was like a big brother to me. Always checking up on us and helping us through our hardest moments. Dinkey as he was affectionately called will be missed by us all. May God give his family the strength to go on knowing that Dinkey is only asleep with Christ. May his soul rest in peace. To Denise and the boys hold onto God’s unchanging hands and he will lead you through.

My love and prayers to your family. Goodbye, my friend.

To the Burke Family….i understand your pain, confusion and suffering at the sudden and unpredictable loss of a great husband, Father and friend to so many. It is so difficult to understand but nothing can take away the many memories you all had together or the positive influence and lasting impact Odel’s parenting had on Jevon snd Jason. This will live on for generations . Coaching basketball together for many years i witnessed Odel’s calm demenor with the boys and setting a great example of proper behavior. I have no doubt that Jevon and Jason will grow to be great men just like their Father. We will all see one another again….just as Jesus promised. Godspeed my friend and i know you will live in your familes hearts forever ?

I remember Tony as a very jovial, down to earth man. There’s never a dull moment with him. He was also very caring. Our last conversation was him checking on how I was doing in the pandemic. Tony may not have walked around preaching sermons, but he lived his life showing love, compassion and treating others how Jesus would and that’s better than any sermon from a pulpit. May we all live to meet him where we will never part again. To his family I pray that God will give you the strength for each day as you go through this very difficult time.

My heart ache as I write these words about a wonderful, kind-hearted, loving, jovial, peaceful and humble person I know my dearest cousin Tony. He is the epitome of genuiness! There was never a dull moment when he’s around, when we talked it as if talking going out a style, cause we would talk for hours. There’s just so much to say about T (as I often call him) it would take a lifetime. He is a family man, he loves his family immediate and distant alike, he was very dear to me. I will cherish the memories forever, I love my cousin with all my heart and will forever miss him! May his soul rest in peace.
