On January 7, 1944, on the southside of Chicago, Illinois, God blessed Maryland Sellers, Sr. and Elnora Coleman Sellers with their sixth child – a beautiful daughter they named Lynn Ann Sellers. Being the second youngest of seven, Lynn Ann was surrounded with a lot of family love. Her daughter, Kimberly Griffin Clanagan, her parents, her siblings, William, Georgia, Jewel, Marvin, Charles, and Maryland Sellers, Jr., greeted her at the pearly gates on February 9, 2022, when she departed this Earthly setting at her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. God had summoned her to lay down the burdens of the world and to come home and be at rest.
Lynn treasured her family and friends and embraced every moment with them. She shared words of encouragement, wisdom, and comfort to all who would listen. She enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, and watching cooking shows. She loved snowy winters and seeing her favorite bird, the cardinal, the state bird of Virginia.
Lynn started her career at the United States Postal Service in Chicago, Illinois. There, a handsome military man, Henry Griffin, caught her eye and won her heart. They soon united in holy matrimony, and Lynn happily became a military wife. Although the life of a military wife required frequent relocations, she had a fulfilling career that blessed her with many long-lasting friendships. She also worked for many years at the Department of Defense and several health care facilities.
Left to carry on her legacy and to hold dear the fond and loving memories are: her husband, Henry Griffin of Fredericksburg, VA; her children, Pamela Ward Bailey (Daryl) of Lorton, VA, Sheree Ward of Alexandria, VA, Thomas Revish of Plainfield, IL, and Christopher Ward, Sr. of Ladysmith, VA; her nine grandchildren, Tamara Murphy, Chanel Bailey-Ross, Trunell Trusel, Christopher Ward, Jr., Troy Clanagan, Jr., Kayla Arellano, Tiffany Clanagan, Nathaniel Revish, Torin Clanagan; her three great-grandchildren, Donovan Murphy, Dominic Murphy, Kimira Clinton; and an array of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and lifelong friends.

I’ve admired Lynn and her wide-ranging husband, children, and family through the stories her daughter Pam has shared. Through Pam, I saw Lynn’s faith, dedication to her children, her love of family celebrations, and everyday pleasures–and I wish I had known her in person. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Lynn’s family and friends and know that her goodness, her zest for life, and her commitment to family all live within each of you who are tasked to carry forward the best of her.
