June Evelyn Zeiger Obituary
June Zeiger (née June Evelyn Pennington), age 96, passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital, Monday, March 24, 2025. June was born June 26,1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Edgar Pennington and Alice Wentworth.
June moved to New York City (NYC) when she was 7-years old to attend elementary and secondary school and then Hunter College. She married Henry “Hank” Zeiger in NYC in 1953 and they later lived in Baltimore, MD; Poughkeepsie, NY; Boulder, CO; and New Canaan, CT. June realized her dream of living near the beach finally when she and Henry eventually settled in East Orleans, Cape Cod, MA around 2003.
June possessed a wonderful imagination and was a great storyteller. She was an amazing bright light to family and friends, and her compassion and generosity touched many over the years.
June was preceded in death by her husband Henry Zeiger, three sons Matthew, Paul, and Donald and grandson Dallin.
June is survived by her daughter Laura (Laurie) and her husband Jay Hatfield, and her son John and his wife Esther. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Tasha, Nathan, Amanda, Jessica, Michael, Brianna, Claire, Liam, Finley and Matthew, and by two great grandchildren: Sophia and Hanno.

Dearest June,
I met you and Hank when I was about five years old on Westview Terrace in good ‘ol Poughkeepsie. You and my mom were friends from the start and all throughout the years our families played, laughed and cried together. You were such a light in everyone’s life and your wonderful laugh was your signature! Thank you for your kindness and generosity to my family and especially to Janet, my mom when she needed you most. How she loved your shared conversations, your intellect and your knowledge of all things historical and political. You opened your home and your heart to mom and her dog Maggie which was no small feat! I will always cherish our visits, your hospitality and your compassion for people. You will be missed June but remembering you will bring me back to happy and not so happy years with a multitude of memories. Till we meet again. Much love, Patricia

Grandma, I always loved talking with you about music, singing, spirituality, astrology, our ancestors and the moon . You had a gift of making everyone feel special and accepted. I loved hearing your life stories and I will always remember and cherish them and you.

Mama Z was a beloved nickname for Ms. June. She was, indeed, a wonderful woman, great storyteller and knew historical facts that were very impressive and akin to being a living history book.
