Stephen Charles Hunter passed away peacefully in Chilliwack, BC, hospital on January 10, 2022, after a brief illness with his family by his side.
Stephen was born in Newmarket, Ontario, on November 23, 1960, the Son of Marven Hunter and Jean (nee Robertson) Hunter.
In summer of 1972, the family moved from Ontario to Saint John, New Brunswick. Stephen attended Bayside Junior High, while working on weekends at Lord’s Lobster in the City Market, his family’s business, where he excelled at sales. After graduating from Simonds High School, he left NB and moved to Calgary Alberta. Upon arriving in Calgary, he immediately started working for Billingsgate Fish Market, until he decided to go to work for a Framing Company. He met Patricia Lomenda, and started working for Allkind Masonry, the Lomenda Family Business. Stephen and Pat married on Oct 16, 1982. In 1984 they moved to Saint John NB, where Stephen rejoined Lord’s Lobster Ltd, where he really helped grow the business. He was a born salesman.
Three children were born to them in Saint John, Kallie, Mark and Jeff. In the fall of 1994 the family moved back to Calgary, Alberta, where Stephen worked at various construction jobs, that led him to open his own renovation company, Hunter Construction Ltd, in Lethbridge AB. After many good years in Lethbridge, he moved on to various places in Western Canada, focusing mostly in Alberta and BC, where he brought his valuable experience to every project he worked on.
Stephen was predeceased by his father Marven Hunter, and is survived by his former wife, Patricia Smith (Stan); daughter, Kallie Ellis (Mark); son, Mark (Janie); and son, Jeff; 7 grandchildren, Kennedy; Dane; Chase; Denver; Benson; Theo; and Owen. Also survived by his mother, Jean Hunter; brother John (Shelley); and sisters, Marlene Petersen (Ken); Caroline McLean (Jamie); and Jeannine Chrisp (Paul), many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, all who loved Stephen dearly. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: Ruth & Naomi’s Mission

So very sad to hear of Stephens passing. He was such a dear boy who used to come over across the Rd to visit us when we lived in the upstairs cozy apartment and Mr &Mrs Hunters. . I was lonely for my little brothers so it was extra special. As Stephen grew up we saw less of him but he will always have a special place in my heart. So very sorry to all of you . Sending our heartfelt sympathy.

I first met Stephen on the School bus and we got talking about things and that his father was looking for employees at lords lobster. That’s when I got my start in the fish business. I got to know the family working with them for 15 years my brother Donald became good friends with Stephen as well. Many fun times in the market. It was a shock to hear about his passing and he will be missed by many. My heart goes out to the families.

It was a great privilege to listen to Steven’s memorial service today. Thank you for leaving it still on line. This is Sharon Worden (and I will include my mother, Shirley Worden, who is in a senior’s residence there in Chilliwack). We have known the Hunter family for many many years, as our family and the Hunters are from the same area in NB. Our hearts go out to each one of you in this loss, but such a comfort in word and deed for a dear son, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. With mother I’d like to express our deep sympathy.

I remember when Stephen had arrived at the shelter. He introduced himself as Hunter, and so I thought that was his first name. Later on I discovered that his first name was Stephen so I teased him about being a 007 agent. When I greeted him I would often call him Hunter, Stephen Hunter and we would both laugh at the memory that had started our working relationship.

We stayed with Steve in Hunter Lake while his family went on holidays for 2 weeks. Steve was in his last year of High School and he had missed a number of days of school and needed written excuses for those days! We sat at the kitchen table, Steve dictating what to say and me writing and signing his moms name ! I told him I’d do it in one condition that I was telling his mom when she got home! No problem he said ! RIP Steve

Thinking of you folks.

The circle has been broken on earth but we look forward to an eternal future where there will be no more tears or sorrow. Sending my thoughts with love.

Stephen was my cousin of many, but he was the same age as me. He was kind and loving. He would go out of his way to help people. He never looked down on anyone. I lost touch when he went out west. But I always loved him, and I am saddened in his passing.

Steven will always be in our hearts

My thoughts have been with Steven’s family this past week, since I heard of his passing. It has been many years since I have seen him. I remember the kind, and gentle person that he was, and have some fond memories of when we were children out at Hunter’s Lake. Those were the days when all the cousins were together.
My deepest sympathy for the loss of your son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend.
RIP cousin ❤

Steve was a kind gentle soul who is selfless humble and just an all-around nice guy. He never gave up wanting more for himself and for his family and wanting to be better for everyone that he loved. God has shown me through Steve’s loving family and Steve himself How powerful he is and how his love can be shown in so many different ways. My prayers and thoughts are with Steve’s family and I pray that God is strengthening them through this very difficult time. He will never be forgotten.
