Garth Edward Cook Obituary
Garth passed peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2026 at the age of 85.
Garth was born March 18th, 1940, in Dodsland, Saskatchewan, and then joined his family in Driver, Saskatchewan.
The family moved to Cawston BC in 1945 when Garth was 5 years old. Garth was the 10th of 14 children born to Sarah and William Cook.
Garth is survived by his siblings Milton, Haviland, Shirley, Honey, Mary, and Verna. Garth was predeceased by his siblings Patience, Bill, Earl, Ronald, Churby, Eunice, and Elsie.
In February 1959 Garth made his choice to serve God in his hometown of Cawston, BC.
In 1960 when he was 20 years old, Garth started in the ministry to share the Gospel. Garth spent 10 years in BC and then in 1970 he went to West Africa where he spent 30 years. In 2000 he returned home and had time in Alberta, BC, Ontario and Quebec. In 2009 Garth shared the same Gospel in France for 1 year before returning to Canada where he continued in this work having time in Saskatchewan and BC until his passing.
Garth’s hope was to “continue in the Ministry until his last living day.”

We are inspired by those who finish faithful. I think of family who will especially miss Garth. He’s well remembered in West Africa. Just yesterday someone mentioned him.
We’re thankful for his love and zeal for others.
Some of Garth’s family I know well and want to express condolences to all who feel keenly his absence.

Garth was in my home in his first year in the work. I kept in touch with him when he was in the gold cost area have kept in touch often since then. He was quite a man to me
@
Garth was in W Africa when I arrived in 1994. He was a kind brother. He lived for others. He will be missed but he did his part. My condolences to the family and friends worldwide…

Surely Uncle Garth did his part to help us all to know that there is more than enough of Heaven’s lovingkindness to include each of us on every continent.
We are thankful too.
@
So thankful to have met Garth at convention. A couple of years Such a kind and humble man. My deepest condolences to family members
@
Garth came to Africa when we were kids. I have been companion of Garth Cook and also of Lorne Moore and of Ed Bax who have all gone to their reward with the One whom they have loved and served. We thank our Father for the lives of all those who have sown their lives as seed to bring the gospel in Africa.
@
We enjoyed having Garth in our home as well when he was in Atlantic Canada , last also online in 2021 or so when we had to stay at home for meetings. His testimony now spoke volumes although he didn’t verbalize much from his experience in Western Africa or France. Our condolences to the immediate and extended family..Brian, Heather,Zane ,Clae MacCallum
@
Doug and I enjoyed having Garth in our home a a few times here in Quebec. My
Birthday was also on the same date. So
we shared our cake.
Deepest sympathy to the family and
staff.
@
The presence of Garth always cheered me. I remember the first time I met him Garth was happy to meet my friend .and he gave her this introduction “of Cook by name but not by profession.
@
Garth in his third year in the work along with Ernest Nelson, were the first workers to visit us in 1962. We have good memories of his zeal for others to hear about Jesus. He liked to walk around the lake, and learned more about our neighbors then we did as we already heard. He had genuine gift and through God’s Spirit used it. Very thankful for his example . He enjoyed a good ride on horseback in back country of which I did also. He told us the time his brother Earl was attacked by a mother bear. Some time later I asked Earl while at a funeral, Earl’s words exactly identical to what Garth had said. Garth didn’t add to or take away from, it spoke to me…
@
Loved having Garth in our home – so positive – an inspiration to us.
@
We loved hearing Garth whenever he came to Chelan! Thinking of his family with love, Jeff and Rebekah Baysinger
@
Will miss his stop ins every time he came to lillooet. Rest well uncle Garth. Your presence will be greatly missed.❤️
@
I first met Uncle Garth in Quebec in the 80’s. He was a man you liked the first time you met him. The last time he stayed with us in Kamloops he picked apples from our tree to give to others, that was his life. When he was with us he always asked about all the friends in Quebec. We will miss Uncle Garth but have lots of good memories.
@
My sympathies to the family, co workers and many friends.
@
We very much appreciate being able to listen in to Garths funeral service. We have good memories of him and he kept in touch with us all right up to the end, which we valued alot..
We are v glad of the times he came to our help for Special meetings and Conventions in Ghana. Some of his helpful messages will always remain in my heart….
We extend our sympathy to his dear family. He will be missed. But better for him now.
@

Grateful for Garth’s visit to Ireland years ago. Had some good visits 2024 at salmon Arm convention. Had a special little link, His forefathers came from our are Co. Wexford. He gave me some names but have not been able to make a connection with Cookes in our town.
@
@
A true servant of God. Always enjoyed hearing him and having him in our home. Condolences to the family.
@
Garth had a humble guileless child like spirit and he could go into any situation
We valued his recent time in our field so much as well as working beside him over the years. He leaves a huge hole in our hearts with his passing but we treasure every memory of him. His love and hope for every soul and for the gospel story touches us deeply.
@
I didn’t know Garth so well but always impressed by his love of telling the Gospel. He’ll be greatly missed.
@
Such a wonderful service for a very dear servant and lover of souls who was faithful to the end! We are thankful we could share a little of his love, joy and peace. Thinking of those who will miss him the most…Norman and Minnie Lou

Our loving thoughts go to all of Garth’s family at this time!
Garth had people smarts and Godly wisdom. He was a happy evangelizer because he loved God and man…in the right order.
He was such a Special man to so many. Pray that God will raise up more like him!
@
It was special to attend Uncle Garth’s funeral online. The Cook family meant so much to our Mom (Ivy Langill). As a result, growing up we heard a lot about the Cook family and loved them, extending our love to the generations following.
My condolences and love to all the family.
@
A hymn of ours has the line Thy life was given for me…
Am encouraged by Uncle Garth Cooks years of service in the Ministry. Writing from West Africa, am reminded again of the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus offering His life to communicate God’s plan for mankind. One feels this sense of thankfulness and indebtedness for our Lord Jesus Christ and the likes of Uncle Garth Cook have contributed and continue to keep the voice and plan of God audible and visible with their lives.
From Ghana we share in Uncle Garth’s convictions about the welcome awaiting us if we do God’s will.
Thinking of the Ministry, family; the void he has left, we are equally thankful and encouraged our Creator understands Uncle Garth’s transition more than we do and would be Gracious in fufiling His promises Uncle Garth Cook tried to live for.
May the Lord help us also to do our part so we can also experience His full Salvation.
@
Garth was easy to be a friend to…. Often the first question was ” how many trips around the sun now? ”
Memories of going for a walk one morning and Garth greeting our neighbours … Not a shy bone in his body just wanting to be kind and share…..a quote from my long deceased mother’s Bible is fitting now ” Humility is that low sweet root from which all true viruses shoot”
Our condolences to everyone who will miss him in their lives.
Love Robbie

Remembering Garth’s cheerful, nonjudgmental attitude. Thankful for his peaceful passing and send kind thoughts and care to his remaining siblings and extended family.
@
Garth’s zeal for Truth, the Kingdom, the friends and strangers was always inspiring.
It was obvious that he loved Africa and the work of the gospel.
Thank you for your example.
@
My mom (Ivy Langill) often spoke of the Cooks!!! She loved all of you….I remember her telling of the day she offered to do the laundrey for Mrs. Cook…She was so tired at the end of the day…exhausted..it was so much work!!!She realized how hard Mrs. Cook worked raising the family….Her whole life she had you all in her heart, and because of that all of us have you in our hearts!!! And of course we loved Uncle Garth…much love to all…Nina Falls

It was a special privilege to view the service as it took place today. Garth had a special place in our hearts since our wedding day in 1964. We have always valued his faithfulness and feel fresh inspiration to also continue faithful until we reach the goal in Heaven. Sincere condolences to all of his Siblings and their Families.
@
Thankful to be able to listen to this service. A lovely tribute to a faithful servant. Condolences to the family.
@
You will be missed by many. Thanks for your example to all.
@
As others (from W. Africa) have mentioned, we were little kids when we first met Garth in Ivory Coast and Togo. Very thankful for unselfishly giving his life in the Harvest field and being willing to go to W Africa to bring the gospel. We have very fond and rich memories!
@
Garth meant many things to many people…in so many ways. Truly a fisher of souls. By his spirit, he gave each of us courage to hold the torch up to those we meet because he showed us how…humbly, graciously and with gratitude to the Saviour. To all the family, we know you will feel the loss but thankful you shared Garth with us.
@
When Garth was in our field every neighbour got a gospel invitation. We very much loved his happy countenance and all his love and care for us. We are so thankful for the life he freely gave to preach the gospel.:
He will be dearly missed but we are happy for him to go on to his eternal reward.
@
Thanks and condolences to the family for sharing your brother with us, so he became ours too.
@
Many special memories of Garth in our beginning days in Quesnel and down through those 60 plus years
@
we have fond memories of Garth from my childhood until recent days. We were in Ontario, when Garth was in fields in Quebec and Ontario.
We have good memories of the time he spent with us in our condo in Tsawwassen where he made himself acquainted with many of our neighbours!
@
Thanks for the wonderful example that Garth left “God will keep those who trust in Him”
@
A precious sweet influence to us
@
A truly great man who added to all our lives… An example to follow

A message from Elmira “Honey” Cook (Forner) read at Garth’s Service
In the 1940s, my Dad gave up wheat farming and moved to Cawston to a fruit farming town where both Garth and I grew up. We were only 11 months apart and went through school in the same grade – many people thought we were twins!
One year when we were in grade 6, Garth had a pet skunk. On the way to school, Garth and I stopped to pet and play with his skunk. Unfortunately, Garth played a bit too aggressively with the skunk, and it sprayed us, but mostly him. We then continued on to school. When we got to school, the teacher, Mr. Morris, said “Garth Cook, you go home!”
Garth learned to play the piano on his own and also my Dad’s violin. Garth would think of something he wanted to learn and just do it!
When Garth was a worker in Ivory Coast, West Africa, my husband Arny had a business trip to West Africa, so we took a side trip to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and visited Garth and his companion, Jay Wicks. It was a wonderful experience to see how he lived and meet many folks who attended meetings there.
It was such a gift to see where Garth lived and the people that he reached with his love for Jesus and the Bible. He immersed himself while in Africa, learning French and native languages to connect with people. It was also a gift to see how many people in the Friends loved Garth and supported and housed him over his lifetime as a Worker.
While I know that Garth is with Jesus and in God’s loving arms, Garth’s passing is a tremendous loss to me and I will miss him dearly until we meet again. Garth and I were allies and friends in a childhood that, at times, was difficult and harrowing. No matter where we were in the world and what was going on in our lives, we had a special understanding, connection and love that has meant the world to me.
With all my love,
Honey (Elmira) Cook (Forner)

A Faithful Service and a Faithfull Finish.

I am a granddaughter of Bill Cook. Not many people meet let alone have connections with extended family. I am both grateful and thankful to have been given that experience in this life. Growing up in Lillooet, I had the privilege of spending extended time with Churby, Earl, Garth and my grandfather. It comforts me to know he will be met by the open arms of his brothers. Theres a quote about grief that states
“What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
I will forever miss his first hellos, big hugs and his humble kindness. I am thankful I was able to call him family and I will always carry a part of him with me
@
God Bless You Garth as you are welcomed home to your true Home…Eternity with Our Lord and Savior and Redeemer and Brother…Jesus the Christ!
Please I ask you Garth…Pray for me now and always from Eternity in Heaven!
Your Friend Always In Christ, Matthew

I am happy to listen to Garth’s tributes and it brings back memories of the years that he laboured here in Cameroon. He had a humble Spirit and gentle.
Sincere condolences to his siblings and nieces and nephews. He loved them so.
@
Garth will be remembered fondly in West Africa. We appreciated his visit there in 2019. Another faithful one has reached the eternal Home.
@
Sweet memories of dear Garth. He was such a positive person who just loved to share the Gospel everywhere he went. His faith and love for the Gospel was always evident. He will be missed ❤️

Morning
We are thankful to those who have made it possible for us to feel a part of uncle Garths funeral…
i call him uncle because when i was just a boy he and his companion stayed at our house for a few days and i will never forget the fun times we all had together… And as i got older i wanted to live my life as i wanted to and it did not work very good.. Uncle Garth was a worker who impressed me a lot as we got to know him and he was one that God
used to bring my attention back to this perfect way because of the way he treated us.. I have thought of him often even when i was in the world so i am so thankful for all the years he has sacrificed to bring the Gospel
when Lynn was baptized he phoned us after he heard and Lynn said she would never forget it…
@
Grateful to have known Garth and some family for many years. A victory!
@
Garth was an inspiration from the first time I met him as a young worker.
@
Sending love to all the family today, it’s an honor to be here to pay my respects to a man who loved the story of Jesus with his whole heart and soul.
@
Rita Tammy Rhonda and Lill and family may you rest in peace
@
Uncle Garth was so special to us and we valued the times he was in our home. we are so thankful for having the privilege. He told of when he first started in the work coming to the kootenays and staying with my grandparents, and so much later coming again and being with us. He loved to tell the gospel story and the joy that showed was so encouraging. We will miss him. He was such an inspiration
@
Garth thanks for your years of service to the ministry. Thanks for your gentle words and spirit. We will miss you.
@
I awoke this morning feeling so grateful to God for keeping Garth so true through these many years.
Remembering being at the baptism at Salmon Arm in 1960 when Garth took the step and that very year, started in the work.. And now, the last step taken, with rejoicing,”bringing in the sheaves with him.”
@
I loved every moment I got to spend with Garth. Loved God’s spirit in him. He was always so gracious!
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.
@
A truly lovely man. Will be remembered by me as one with a desire to learn, never thinking he was always right and so guided by God.
@
We met Garth in Nelson in 1969. From that time forward he became our children’s Uncle Garth and love flowed both ways then came our grandchildren who again loved their Uncle Garth deeply. Our only granddaughter shared his birthday with her. This is three generations of love that is most precious to us here.
@
Loved his uniqueness and genuine love for the gospel and how he loved to preach it . His life backed his word.
@
I will always remember Garth by his humble, sincere, gentle Spirit,
Glad I got to know him,
@
Garth will be dearly missed. I have very sweet memories of him visiting and staying at my parents home in Cotonou, Bénin, when I was growing up. Grateful for the gospel of Christ he preached and the seed that was planted in my heart back then, which has kept growing. It was nice to see him again in Kelowna in 2023 at special meeting and in Calgary earlier this year at convention.
@
Garth was a wonderful person and friend to us, and to all who were blessed in this world that shared time with him. Wherever the Lord lead Garth in life, he would demonstrate the love and teachings of Christ Jesus.
We will miss him…… and fondly remember him.
“ I thank my God upon every remembrance of you…….” Philippians 1:3

To Garth’s siblings. I met many of you in the fall of 1961 in Victoria. I was almost 18, going to UVic, and am not sure why you all gathered there, and your mom was also there, at someone’s home. Garth was there also. I remember thinking you were all beautiful people. Reg and I lived many years in Creston, and Garth was often in the Kootenays, and I remember the year he was on his way to Africa, and he stopped in Creston to visit the church there, and the man who had murdered 7 people, who were relatives and friends of several of the church, was in prison waiting for trial, and Garth went to visit hime while in Creston. He said the man did not want to talk to him. I remember when Garth came back from Africa for the last time, with skin cancer from all those years in the sun, with his fair skin. We always loved to hear Garth’s stories of Africa. Garth was a true minister of the gospel, he followed the message that Jesus gave to his disciples just before he rose into Heaven, when he said to preach the gospel to every creature. Garth kept himself pure, and trustworthy, a prince of a man. We will listen to the service today and think of all of you gathered together. We live in Kelowna now, should any of you want to stop in for a visit.
@
Garth was a soul_searching servant of God. I was lucky to have crossed paths with him. I thought I knew the way of God until I heard the true gospel story. Him and late Lorne Moore were the first missionaries I met.
His love for God was unwavering.. He knew how to lead one on the way of truth.
He often gave this song hymn 93, I have only one life to give and he lived to give his life in service to God. We’re all passing to eternity but that depends on our service for God here on earth. In one gospel meeting he preach on Ecclesiastes 12, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth. That encouraged me more as I read through that chapter. Time is passing so quickly so the little Garth could he did.
He did well, we will miss him. (Susan Pog)
In loving memory of Garth Cook, a radiant soul. Your love for God shone bright, inspiring you to set out as a missionary from. Canada to Cameroon, Africa.
You prophesied a son to an African woman, born March 18th,sharing your birthday. Garth Tonye Biaga Pog – a testament to your devotion
Cherishing memories of our bond. I grateful for the memories you left. Rest in peace, dear Garth. Your spirit shines eternal. (Garth Pog)

Sweet memories of Uncle Garth’s kindly way -his ready smile and encouraging words- at conventions in India, 2002-2003. We were part of the entourage traveling by train between conventions and I fondly remember the blessing of those unhurried conversations as the Indian countryside rolled by.

We met Garth at Staffordshire Convention in England in 1987,&were fed by his words of wisdom, & his care for the flock in W. Africa at that time!
Praying his family will find comfort in knowing he fought a good fight, & now he can rest from his labours!

Only remember by what we have done special memories of Garth remember his first time in Nigeria West Africa I always enjoy Garth attitude about sharing the gospel he gives us courage may his soul rest in peace
@
We were sorry to hear of uncle Garth Cook’s passing, another reminder that those we’ve been looking up to are leaving us one by one.! A reminder also that we should look up to Jesus and look up to God who will never leave us.
We have great appreciation for uncle Garth’s life here in Nigeria; right from the 70s, he had great zeal and love for God’s people, a great encouragement to each one, young and old. He was with us at Special meetings In East Nigeria and in Lagos. He knew about the journeys from Lagos to East Nigeria. He always had a smile and an encouragement come what may..
We long to follow the good examples of those who have gone before us.
@
I was still very young when Garth came to Benin in Africa. I have very fond memories of him. His gospel messages greatly encouraged me to take my first steps on the path of truth. We thank God for his life dedicated to His service. May God also help us to persevere in the Lord to the end. Amen.

Dear Garth’s family: I vividly recall my first introduction to Garth….July 27/69; Silverdale 1 convention 🙂 I, [age 33] a devout Mennonite, had asked my friend who had invited me, “Are all your ministers single??!!” Scheller, [Alice], saw this young worker at a drippy tap, called him over, and said, “Garth, tell Peters [my maiden name], WHY YOU ARE NOT MARRIED!!!” [My face went RED!!!] Garth’s big smile :-)& reply: 1) “It’s not that we don’t like women!!” I thot, ‘he’s honest!!!’ 2) “It’s not that its a sin to marry”. I thot….he’s human!! Garth’s face more serious…replied, “And, it’s NOT a sacrifice!! It’s a big privilege to be giving my life in service to the ONE who has given HIS all for me.” 1970…Garth’s 1st snail-mail letter from Africa, “Betty….my companion & I had a big meal at one of our friends…..many pots…I never saw 1 Mennonite in the pot :-)!!! “Heaven’s gain…..our loss!!” He is now seeing what he believed & faithfully lived…left a Godly influence!! I’m so thankful that our paths crossed!!!

When we heard of Garth’s passing, I thought of the words of Jesus to his disciples in our Wednesday study: Mark 1: 38. Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. Garth preached the gospel every day by his life and spirit and words. He was always seeking ways to further, to share the gospel story. I truly believe he has now heard the words Well done, good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matt 25:23.
@
Special memories of Garth. Stayed with him in West Africa. Each time we saw each other we liked to speak pigeon English. How your skin my friend.
@
I have such special memories of Garth. I was at the same preps as Garth was at Bonners Ferry. Maybe in 1966 or 67. That was when I first met him. Later he went to West Africa and me to Japan. I enjoyed being at some of the same conventions as Garth on our home visits. Thoughts go to the family these days especially.
@
Garth always held a special place in our hearts! He and his family were very dear to me and my family (growing up). Garth’s mom often stayed with us (Adrian and Pearl Hoogers) and knew Earl and Emerald and the girls and Shirley and family! Our hearts go out to you and the rest! He was an inspiration and help to so many!
@
I was a little boy when Garth came to West Africa.
We have fond memories of those who left their countries and their ways of life to bring us this precious treasure from Heaven.
“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… for they rest from their labors, but their works follow them.”
He has surely already received the Crown that never fades…
@
Many fond memories of Garth.
Rest in peace.
@
With Garth’s strong faith and him always so happy and encouraging us , it has helped us to both become much stronger in the faith, he will be so missed but rest in peace Garth.
@
Garth told us once : I hope that no one ever goes ‘ GaGa over Garth’. But he encouraged us all to believe, to love and to trust the Living God, God’s son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Thanks to a true servant.
@
I always enjoyed Garths attitude about sharing the gospel with others. He really was so kind and hospitable. We enjoyed him in our home.
@
Last year, even when Garth was not able to preach from the platform, he gave his testimony at Chelan convention. He brought God’s message to our hearts for many years, and he loved souls deeply. You could feel it every time he spoke with you. Garth’s life and death are evidence of fruit, grown through many years of experiences, reading, and praying. It is a testimony that I pray will encourage me on my journey to one day join him in joy and peace.

Garth has always been special to the Zosels. John remembers visiting their family in Cawston from a young boy and we have enjoyed his cheerful, Godly influence all our life. Thankful for his encouraging, helpful spirit and think of how full of joy he must be now. Linda & John Zosel

Thinking of Garth’s family since hearing of his passing. Garth lived life to the fullest living for others..A LIFE WELL LIVED. He lived in the “second mile” inspiring others in the journey of life. His happy enthusiasm for life and others will be missed but not forgotten. With sympathy in your loss in your family.
@
We loved all the times we had with Garth over the years.
On his daily walks, he came to know more of our neighbors than we do.
We rejoice for him now.

What a wonderful testimony to have continued in the Ministry until his last living day. Garth so kindly introduce himself in the dining hall at Glen Valley a couple years ago. Having never been there and from Idaho, I was quite shy. He made me feel very comfortable and glad to be there. I remember him making a reference to the American country songwriter Garth! I didn’t even realize until later that he was a brother worker, but he left a lasting impression. His joy of the Lord.and gentle countenance so evident. Definitely worth aspiring to emulate.

I will never forget a few years back walking with Garth near the Rainbows of the Metchosin Waterfall, and he mention whilst we were in general discussions, Dukie , study the Scriptures as if your life depended on it—-Words of Wisdom. God graced Garth Cook’s Soul with a Spiritual Essence few possess. It’s been a Mighty Journey and I am thankful for knowing Garth Cook.

So thankful for Garth and his wonderful testimony that sure does inspire us to be Faithful and to love the way of God as much as he did. His every moment was living to teach, to any who would listen, about Jesus.
Thinking of his family and sending our condolences.

I spent my first year in God’s service with my uncle Garth. He was like a father to me, despite our ups and downs. His passing reminded me of my last message, sent on September 8, 2025, in which I shared our memories.
I was deeply touched by his reply, in which he said that God has surely blessed the Gospel in Africa, and that is absolutely true.
I want to share the message I sent him on September 8, 2025, along with his reply, which I greatly appreciated. He loves Africa.
My last message to him when I heard about his health fragile 👇👇👇
Hello, dear uncle.
Yesterday, after the meeting, I saw Brother Gildas BEWA. I asked him how you were, and he told me that your health was a little fragile, but that you were still able to make the six-hour trip to see him before he left for Benin.
I hope your health is better now. I remember well our times together in Natitingou, Kobli, Kouafa (seeing Brother Bénoit KOUAGUN and his family), Tanguiéta, where we sometimes had to get off to help the motorcycle climb the mountains, Boukoumbé, Niamey (seeing the brothers of our sister Julie, who finished her race well while keeping her faith in Christ), N’dali, Djougou, Parakou, Cotonou, Porto-Novo (seeing Valérie and her family). Dear uncle, it was good to make these trips because of the needs there. I was unable to continue, but I am always happy to see those who continue to be useful to this work of God. I pray that God will help me maintain the place He has given me by always doing my best according to His will. Amen.
Dear uncle, please do not be upset by the length of my message. I felt compelled to write it. I apologize. I wish you a speedy recovery and good times in your endeavors, and may God keep us all according to His will. Amen.
Here was his reply to my message 👇👇👇
Great to hear Alain, yes we had good days together. Letter not too long at all. I have always appreciated your very sincere, kindly, willing spirit, and apologize for the times I was not what I should have been to you. God has surely blessed the gospel in W Africa. Good days and greetings to your family and all, svp.
May God receive him in His kingdom and help us
as we read in Philippians 3:17, to love his example. Amen.
Brothers and sisters, unite in imitating me and consider those who live according to the example we have given you.

Uncle Garth.. he was so happy to talk to anybody and share what he loved.

I have enjoyed uncle Garth and his testimony. He was a servant that could make the bible very clear. When I had trouble understanding the bible, he was able to make it very clear to understand. Thank you, uncle Garth for your service and the life you gave to god to use.

Garth was very special to me…. I was 10 years old and made my choice at Olympia,Wa convention, and immediately after meeting, he climbed over the benches to shake my hand and introduce himself and from that moment on, he wrote letters to me for many years, encouraging me through the teenage years and into my married years! A wonderful, thoughtful, prayerful servant of God!! All he had to do and he took time over the years to write to me… to pray for me! What an example of encouraging intercession! An inspiration to all of God’s people!

Garth’s love and compassion for everyone was a shining beacon. We so appreciated his joy of faith and his care for everyone

Leslie R Pountney. I was Garth’s co-worker several times in French West Africa and we had much in. Common and good fellowship. I will miss his text messages. May his soul rest in peace waiting for the first resurrection.. Amen

Condolences extend to family and close friends.
I knew Garth through my sister
Joyce Szakacs Who was in the same ministry and introduced me to Garth. I believe we met at Silverdale convention.
She spoke often of Garth and is gone now too. We all have deep appreciation for Garth’s faith and example and continuing to the end.

J’ai connu Garth quand j’étais enfant.

We want to share our deep condolences to the Cook family , as a very dear brother, uncle, servant, and friend has left this earthly scene . We do rejoice that God took care and is taking care of him now. His great love of the Truth and mankind was infectious. We express deep thankfulness that we knew him as he journeyed here .
Merci

Garth was such a prince. I first met him in France/Belgium while he was transiting from Africa, and attending our conventions. He could articulate his message clearly in meetings, so young children understood. The impact of his life and service in Africa, particularly Benin, is tremendous. During the later years, in Canada, Garth continued to share from his heart and with great humility. His victory is very inspiring. I am glad our paths crossed many times. He shall be greatly missed. Condolences to Garth’s family.

I have never met Mr. Garth, but so glad to hear that another Brother Worker has made it home to God. Condolences to the Family.

My favourite thing about Garth was the always-evident joy he had through his faith in Christ. He loved sharing that faith with others, regardless of background. So glad to have known him.
@
My memories go back to our youth and many convention workdays together even befor Garth chose to serve God and then to give his life for his friends. We stayed in touch through the years, even when I did some business work in W. Africa. Through my life, Garth has always been an inspiration and encouragement to me. A very special moment was when he led my mother’s funeral service. Most recently, as some of you know, I had already made preliminary plans to get to the Okanagan from Texas and see Garth in March. Now my plans are to follow where he’s gone and see him there!

It showed the love you had for our Father. How zealous to tell the gospel story, and remind us of the Greatest Foundation truths in Christ

Garth, came to our home and the slocan valley, 50 years ago, In the last few years he would always visit, He refered to our area as his old stomping ground. He left so many memories on our lives, Our condolences, to the cook family.

Many Thanks to Garth for his zeal and positive influence. He loved to tell people the Gospel Story and I am glad for times when I witnessed this first hand. I thank our Father for Garth’s time in the work and thank our Father for all the faithful workers. We as Gods people are indebted.

I am so happy for Garth. To make it home. Sorry to the family and friends that will miss his kindness and his smile. I was a little girl when he went to Africa and I wrote letters to him and was always so happy to receive them back. Very fond memories.
@
Garth shared the Gospel with much joy.. He kept the message simple, so even a little child could understand.. I was always thankful for that.
Condolences to all his family.

I will miss his inspiring zest for life and zeal for Truth. Sincere condolences to his family.

I am both unhappy and happy being told of Garth dying!
I am unhappy…for myself…and SO many like me in this world who no longer have this man in Christ…Garth…to support, guide, strengthen and help prepare us in this life for Christ. And, to gain our true true purpose as Garth did in this life on Earth and now has gained TRUE LIFE with Christ in Paradise!
I am happy…for Garth…I am SO happy for him! What a priceless gift, and reward, he has now gained by Faith, Hope, and Love, to now be with Christ…the One True, Only Begotten and Beloved Son of God Our Eternal Father…in Heaven!
When someone like Garth is born, decides to Serve the Lord Jesus Christ…and does so 100% all his adult life and then dies…we come ever closer to the day of our own dying!
I pray, like Garth, I live a life worthy (even just enough) of being one of those invited to enter Heaven by Christ and not one of those who are not invited to enter Heaven!
Please Garth, keep praying for me!
In Christ, Matthew M. Stevenson

Dear family of Garth , we know you will miss that kind smile .. that good cheer that your brother and uncle always spread around. But we rejoice with him . He is Home safe . Away from
All the ups and downs of life .. He loved God much to spend those 40 years in Africa … buit the hard tests in life help us to get to know our Father better . Seems
That Garth told them something like that in his testimony at Didsbury .
So God will comfort your hearts and give you courage for the next stretch of the road with Him . Love , Gail

We met Garth Cook when we were little kids at meetings in Cotonou. The only English my mother spoke was: Carth Cook welcome. James Ratcliffe then taught friends how to greet Garth upon his arrival in Cotonou in 1970 and was so well received that he himself learned to greet these friends in their language. He did his best for Africa. We all have good memories of him. Sometimes he could smile but not kindly but he quickly forgot for the sake of friendship.
@
We have very fond memories of the short time he labored in our field in Saskatchewan. Many neighbours met him on his daily walks on the roads in our community. He wanted to share the gospel message to the folks in the area where he was born and his early years! Our sincere gratitude and condolences to all his family.

Dear Garth, always a smile both in and out of a meeting. He was generous and gracious in his ‘dealings every day’. We sure enjoyed seeing more of him this last year when he was mostly in Salmon Arm with us. He will be missed.
Our condolences to his family far & wide.
