December 16, 1931 – January 15, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Irene Lee, who died peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old. Irene’s life was marked by devotion to family, faith, and service to others, leaving a lasting legacy of love, generosity, and resilience.
Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, on December 16, 1931, Irene was the fifth of seven children born to Henry Khodabaks and Alexandrina Killop. In 1951, she married Otmar Beudeker, with whom they were blessed with two children, Joan and Francisco Beudeker. In 1958, Irene moved to Aruba, and in 1960, she settled in Brooklyn, New York, seeking a better life for her family.
Irene worked as an Operating Room Technician at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, where she met Dr. Ernesto Lee, whom she married in 1968. Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Lucinda Lee. Irene was a devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church, where she found strength in her faith.
A gifted self-taught seamstress and cook, Irene loved baking intricate cakes for family celebrations. She was also an avid traveler, visiting all but one of the seven continents, and made many religious pilgrimages. Irene was passionate about giving back and supported causes such as the Unbound Program, sponsoring many children, and was a dedicated donor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Irene was a woman of great strength, confidence, and resilience, always opening her heart and home to others, especially immigrants seeking a new life in the United States. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she shared her time, treasure, and love with all those in need.
Viewing will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on January 24, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM with memorial service beginning at 7:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Genoa Church on January 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery. Repass will be held at Paint Your Blessings 400 Liberty Avenue 1:00-5:00 PM.
Irene’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and service, and she will be deeply missed.

This service was absolutely beautiful. Irene was a wonderful woman full of love, kindness, and selflessness. It truly was a blessing to get to know her. She has the purest heart and she is in paradise now. With love and prayers.

Ms. Lee will be missed dearly. I use to look forward to her stories which brought great knowledge. She had a wonderful spirit…. And will not be forgotten. As I walk into her back yard daily I will always remember her working in her garden. With tears in my eyes I will missed her dearly . In september 2023 hebben we twee weken lang voor het laatst als familie uit Nederland mogen genieten van die prachtige eigenschappen die haar karakter weerspiegelen, zoals gastvrijheid, liefde en zorgzaamheid. Wat heeft ze haar uiterste best gedaan om het ons zo goed mogelijk naar de zin te maken en ons te verrassen met heerlijke gerechten, zelfs ook glutenvrij. We zijn dankbaar dat we haar in ons leven hebben mogen kennen. In de gesprekken die we voerden ervoeren we niet alleen de familieband maar ook een verbondenheid in een diep doorleefd geloof in haar Heer en Heiland, dat nog steeds na echoot in onze herinneringen.
