Susan Mary Goff, 74, died October 8 at her home in Mobile, Alabama.
Susan was born on January 10, 1946, in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Laurence (Larry) Goff and Margaret (Peg) Goff. Susan grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, where she attended Hingham High School. Shortly after high school graduation, she worked as a pathology technician at Tufts Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. She later became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, where she worked for over 24 years until the airline folded. Susan’s passion for travel took her to many countries around the globe. Her natural talents made her great at her job: she had an elegant sense of fashion, was quick to talk with strangers and put them at ease, curious about new cultures and places, and was renowned for her hospitality and generous spirit. No matter where Susan was, she created a circle of friends who was her family.
She loved to cook, restore historic homes, and had a warm, self-deprecating sense of humor. These skills blossomed into other careers during her life, including working as a caterer, a yacht charterer, and a real estate agent. She enjoyed nature and people, and spent much of her time at the beach, on walks or hikes in the woods, or cooking elaborate dinners with friends and family. Children were especially drawn to Susan, perhaps because of her love of play and her unique ability to see the world through a child’s eyes. She was a passionate lover of animals, particularly those who were disabled or abandoned, and cared for many stray animals. Her beloved dog, Janie, and cat, Spicer, survive her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Peg, and her brothers Larry (Cynthia Goff) and John (Meredith Goff). She is survived by sister, Ellen Goff Roberts (Lon Edward Roberts); nephews Jesse Goff (Julie Goff) and Alex Roberts (Ana Carolina Gomez Bridge); nieces Elizabeth Roberts, Catherine Roberts Shteynberg (Garriy Shteynberg), Angelica Goff, and Liana Goff; cousins Kathyann Monahan Connerty, Marilyn Hughes, Jeanne Hughes O’Sullivan, Maureen Hughes Buckley, Frances Monahan, Helen Hughes Burke, and Thomas Hughes; and great nephews and nieces Aidan and Gavin Goff; Mary Frances and Lillian Roberts; and Luca Shteynberg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Susan’s name to The Animal Rescue Foundation (Theodore, AL), The Food Pantry at Central Presbyterian (Mobile, AL), or your local food pantry.
The family of Susan wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Rebecca Barnett, Scott Corley, and Susan’s lifelong friends who helped the family through this loss.
