We longed to be with you. The time change at Salvisa KT convention didn’t allow us to listen. How unreal it seems even yet! We know you have comfort and your hearts are filled with awe about many things. But it still hurts….a lot… in every human fibre when you can’t be together face-to-face and heart-to-heart as you have been. I loved the way Rick’s face lit up when he share about his country and people. It will be so good to see some of you soon.

We have just viewed Rick’s funeral from Glen Innes NSW Australia. I left Canada in 1973 to live in Australia. We have met Rick over the years on several occasions when we have visited Canada. Rick was a special friend to our eldest son Darrell, when he was visiting my family in Southern Saskatchewan and Rick was in the Swift Current and Hodgeville field. They were good friends. Our thoughts go to Derrel and Anne, and especially to his brother, Dave, who was also a good friend to Darrell and stayed in our home in Inverell, NSW. Also, our thoughts go especially to those workers, friends, and contacts in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the UAE. Your hearts will be very heavy and will cherish your wonderful memories of a life well spent and totally committed to the will and way of God. Kindest thoughts and deepest sympathy to all who read this. Ross and JoAnne Campbell.

Rick indeed was a special person who made you feel like a best friend as soon as you met him. I appreciated his hospitality in showing me around Dhaka when I was there on a business trip in 2008. He took me along one day to visit a man in a small “metal shop”. Rick ostensibly wanted to fix a part from the coffee maker in the batch, but I could see that it really was an excuse to cultivate a contact. It was very special to meet friends there.

We got to know Rick in 2012 when he spent a few days in our home in Minnesota following his time as a visitor at Special meetings. He was an inspiration during that time…and in his letters over the years. He and Tony fished for hours…Rick just wanted to get a few special “fishing items” for his dad before he left. His wit, love for the Gospel and unending outreach touched our hearts.

We never met Rick but feel we have gotten to know him even after his death. We have had a long association with folk from Regina and Saskatoon generally – mainly the McDougall family – we lived in Zimbabwe when we met a number of Canadian folk from Alberta too.

Our hearts go out to Rick’s parents and all close relatives as well as all over there who had an association and a love for Rick. We were made aware of the fact that he had health issues buy that was made more clear during his funeral. . None know the plan and purpose – or the bigger picture. So glad that in all circumstances we can trust in God’s eternal judgement which he shares with nobody.

    Dear Larson Family,
Thinking of you a lot during this time of sorrow but also of great victory. I met Rick back in 2009 when I was backpacking around the east. I needed up spending a little over two months in bdesh joining up with some other girls who were doing volunteering their. Rick didn’t have a companion for a bit during that time and so each of us girl had to help take turns helping Rick in a gospel meeting. So Rick was responsible for me speaking in my first gospel meeting and I wasn’t even in the work yet!!! I’m now 10 years in the work and thankful for my adventures through Bdesh. Dear Derrel, Anne, Marla, Annelle, David and your Family’s, and extended family’s and those closest to Rick, Our Love and Condolences to you all. We remember Rick best as the little boy Ricky, chasing around with our boys the 3 years we lived in Bredenbury. Enjoyed listening to Rick the worker a few times over the years. Most of all a little hand written letter sent shortly after he went overseas, addressed to our family that was such a sweet surprise and encouragement to us as we were not close after leaving Bredenbury. We heard today, of his gift of reaching out, that was our portion in the little letter written and sent to almost strangers, that showed to us his love of the place God had chosen for him to fill and a love for souls. Embrace every memory the thing that death cannot take from those left here on earth. May his faithful life encourage to keep on keeping on until our time would end.

I saw Rick 1st at Abu Dhabi airport. He came through, the 1st of 3 workers. I didn’t know him but I recognised that he was one of God’s servants instantly. We had the privilege of being with him for 4-5 weeks in UAE, Pakistan & Bangladesh. He was the perfect balance of a spiritually minded person with a great sense of humour. He had extra thoughts to share out of mtgs. He told us about his call to go to Bangladesh & although I don’t remember details now 9 years later, I do remember it was very real & helpful. He was loved & appreciated very much there. We miss him from among us as workers but know the severing of family ties is very real also. I feel it is an honour to die young as that means you are ready, the work finished. He was worthy of such an honour. Deepest sympathies to you all.

I’ve never met Rick, but I feel that familial loss of a beloved family member. He was just 2 month older than my younger daughter. My older daughter drowned while snorkeling when she was 43; so my heart reaches out to his parents and all those closest. But one thing we know – and it’s God’s call when, where and how – not ours. Only He knows when the time is right and what is best to further His work in those of us who are left. He is also the greatest Comforter. May you experience that. 💕

Rick will be greatly missed by friends and fellow laborers here and overseas where he had labored. Rick demonstrated the joy and love in serving God no matter where he had been in spite of pain and different health issues. He had been such a caring brother as many had experienced. His spirit of love and care have touched many in his life. His testimony will continue to inspire all to follow Christ. Our sincere condolences to Rick’s siblings, parents relatives and friends here and overseas.

I never knew Rick except only when he was young and still at home going to school yet but knew his mom and dad fairly well. Is sad to hear of his passing at such a young age but understand he was in a lot of pain so that is now all taken away and he is in a better place and secured himself a place with God and his family one day where there will be no pain May he rest in peace now.

We have so many wonderful memories of Rick visiting with us. He was a cheerful man, who often lifted our spirits. Will always remember one of the last gospel meetings he had in northeast Calgary, when He spoke about the love of God. Will also remember the many times he sat at our table sharing the Bible with us. Rick, we will miss you greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family these days.

It is hard to believe he was only 50 because he packed so much into those years. He was lent to us for such a short time. Our sympathy for your loss but no regrets. Soon we meet again.

We remember Rick as a man who loved life; loved the Gospel Story and what it brought into his life’s experience; a man who so loved and valued God’s Will that he was willing to forego his own natural plans and dedicate his life to the ministry of Gods Word, and in helping others. not only in this land but also in other parts of the world.
We express our condolences firstly, to his parents, Derrel and Anne, and his siblings and their families. We also express condolences to other family members; and the Staff of Workers in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and in other parts where he labored to spread the Gospel (Pakistan, UAE, Bangladesh, and other parts). Also condolences to all who knew and loved Rick.

I got to know Rick well having spent almost a year with him in Bangladesh from late 2016 to late 2017. Together we laboured in that area, and also laboured together for about 6 weeks in Kathmandu, Nepal. In August 2017 we went to Dubai, where we had a gospel meeting there, then onto Kazakhstan for conventions there. Rick is only 2 months my junior, so we were very close in age and stage. I appreciated his wisdom. He started in the work 13 years before me. We blended well – him with more time in the ministry and me having had more years in a paid career than he. Like others, I will sadly miss him. He was a true brother to me, and such support in both a spiritual and natural capacity.

And we rejoice also that Tyrone did … I just heard that “ you never graduate from need . “ there are many needy men and women who needs to hear the story of love and hope . So very beautiful to read in this comments, he always had eternity in mind. This fact should be read by all of us.. every time again.. + again..

I will never forget a Sunday in November several years ago. I was journeying home from MB to Battleford (to be home before dark) when I found myself in a line of several recognizable vehicles turning into a Hall along the hiway. What was I to do but turn in too.

Rick was a visitor in the meeting. This is not word for words but the impression from what he spoke “we can’t expect to hear what is on 970 fm if we are tuned into 190 am – what frequency are we tuned into?” Thank you Rick.

I do much enjoyed and appreciated the post of his recent summary of the story in Samuel of king Saul , Jonathan and David. The choice that we all must make between the two kings: The temporary king of this world or the king of the everlasting kingdom.

    Dear Uncle Rick!
He was wonderful brother to us! His testimony lives on! As he lived for the Gospel! His desire and love and purpose in living for the eternal things was so evident! I remember a Saturday night at Chelan! Rick sharing an experience in Bangladesh relating to that when we make our choice! It’s not just a Wednesday or Sunday that this is forever and it requires our all! In mind and heart and soul! As I’m from India but I’m in the states! I’ve always had a special place in my heart from all the workers but especially those in India and neighboring regions that are spreading the wonderful Gospel message! Rick spread the Gospel with the faith and trust and love like Jesus and Rick definitely fulfilled it! too!

Rick was always good for a laugh, I remember working drilling rigs at Smeaton and one evening I managed to get up to convention. I went to the house later that night to visit with Rick and when I left, he had the heater turned on high, the wipers turned on and the radio as loud as it would go. I knew right away that it was him. He was a good man and a good friend when we were growing up. He will be missed.
