In Loving Memory of
Obidiah Lee
September 12, 1937 – November 27, 2020
Celebration of Life was held on December 9, 2020
Obidiah Lee, 83, returned to his heavenly home on 11/27/2020 after a brave battle with many illnesses. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggles and ultimately granted him peace.
Obidiah was born to the late Frank and Minnie Lee in Bamberg, S.C., on September 12, 1937. He was the eldest son of seven children: four sisters, Awilla Nimmons, Myrtle Bell, Maymee Lee, Mary Cruse; and two brothers, Frank Lee and Alfred Lee.
Immersed in the Christian faith from an early age, it would remain Obidiah’s lifelong support. He always quoted his mother, saying, “God touches the hearts of man”, who blessed Him, and in turn allowed him to bless others. Obidiah strived to bless others– and that he did! With his faith in God, a high school education, and a Ph.D. in motherly wit and common sense, at 15-years-old he left Richard Carol H.S. to pursue a new life in NYC.
Obidiah, a biblical name meaning servant of the Lord, was a faithful member of Maranatha Church. He was blessed with a loving family. He married his first love Katherine Hortense Viney at age seventeen. They were married for 43 years until her passing in 1999. Katherine and Obidiah raised their four children together and he truly practiced Proverbs 13:14 of sparing the rod and spoiling the child, but with loving discipline and humility. He later married his childhood sweetheart Ellaree (Kizer) Cumberbatch-Lee. They were married for 20 years– up until his demise.

It is so hard to lose a parent, the person who held and nurture you from birth. At this time of loss and grieving we place our most precious treasure in God’s hands we put our trust in Him. We know that He dersires best for us. During this time draw nearer and hold close to Him. Psalms 62:1 – My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.
My deepest condolences sis. Debra

So much is going through my mind. I have so many good memories of uncle and auntie. Going to uncle house as a child was the best times for me, aunt katherine would just love and spoil me and my sister andrea. Uncle was the rock in the family, I remember him going to pathmark on saturday morning to go supermarket shopping and he would drop off food by our house and other family members. He would also give us money. I am going to miss him. God bless and keep our family and strengthen us all to be the best. Much love cousin Alisa and Avery Muhammad. And joseph.

Unc I’m going to miss you so much. We share so many memories, laughs, and good times that I never took for granted. You made my first visit to NY as an adult, (many times as a child) a memorable one. I even still laugh about that time you gave me an earful about making a right turn on a red light in Queens lol. Just trying to remember one of the many good times we had. Love you Unc.
