Stuart FL — Manuel (Manny) Peter Fanarjian died Wednesday, July 22, 2020 of respiratory complications due to Covid-19. He was 81.
He leaves behind his three children: Donielle Giroux (Vic) of Waxhaw, NC; Nicole Fanarjian MD (B. David Garruto MD) of Tampa, FL and Manuel Fanarjian MD (Joanna) of Philadelphia, PA, five grandchildren (Rachel and Amanda Giroux and Ella, Zoe and Noah Garruto), his ex-wife, Gail Fanarjian, and current companion, Elizabeth Leone. He is pre-deceased by his long-time partner, Kathleen O’Neill. He is survived by loving family and friends (too numerous to name), who have been generous with their praise of Manny and condolences to his family.
He grew up in Teaneck, NJ (son of Manuel and Rose Fanarjian and brother to Carole Hunt (Patrick)) and spent summers swimming and hanging out at Lake Hopatcong, NJ. He graduated Teaneck High School in 1957.
When he married in 1961, he and his then-wife, Gail Fanarjian, moved to Lake Hopatcong. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated Seton Hall Law School in 1967.
He was industrious both in his professional and recreational life. He was admitted to the Morris County Bar Association in 1967 and practiced law there for more than 40 years. He was a partner in the law firm, Marx and Fanarjian, Esqs. (from 1971-1973 and 1981-1988) and Youngelson, Marx and Fanarjian, Esqs. (1974-1980). Thereafter, Manny was a solo practitioner until he retired in 2011. He also served as the prosecutor in the Jefferson Township and Dover Joint Municipal Courts, where he earned a reputation for firmness, fairness and compassion.
Manny had a passion for boating and when he was not at work, he could be found on or near the water. He loved swimming, waterskiing, tinkering with boats, unwinding with friends and enjoying a strong bloody mary.
He retired to the east coast of Florida in 2011, living in Lighthouse Point for 2 years before settling in Stuart, where he’s lived for the past 7 years.
He left this world a better place, having lived in it. He was warm, generous and made friends easily. He had a strong intellect and share his knowledge with others; providing counsel and comfort to those who needed it. And, to the end, he maintained a strong will. There is no doubt that, because of his tenacity and good works, his legacy will endure.
Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of his life will be postponed. Part of Manny’s heart remains in Lake Hopatcong, NJ; the other part in Stuart, Florida. As such and, in his memory, donations can be made to:
Lake Hopatcong Foundation, 125 Landing Road, Landing NJ 07850
Treasure Coast Hospice, 1000 SE Ruhnke Street, Stuart FL 34994

Oh my what do I say to each and everyone of you. You all brought me to laughs, tears and memories that I remembered each of your reflections of him that came from your thoughtful speeches. For all of you to stay together with honor in your past year only proves that your parents have not only been blessed with beautiful children but shows how much they have done right raising each and everyone if you. Uncle Manny my God Father was and is the exact person, father, grandfather, brother and son you all spoke of it’s amazing how each one of you captured him in your own little ways hats off to all of you who did it his way.

The picture posted here brought back many memories of your dad. The “MPF” monogram was always visible when sitting across from him taking dictation. It brought tears to my eyes but also a smile. He will be missed.

I had the privilege to share 56 years of a memorable and cherished friendship with Manny, my Seton Hall Law School Classmate, Class of 1967. His contributions to our lives may seem like a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less without his drop. He was a gentle and gracious person who enhanced and enriched our lives and touched our souls; and provided us with enjoyment and lasting memories. He will be, and is missed. May he rest in peace. We are all better for having known him. Rest Easy, Manny. Well Done.

In the short time I have known Manny I knew what a special and sweet man he was. Especially because he made my mom happy.
So sorry I did not have more time with him. It was an honor and pleasure to have known him.
