Luz Maria Marrero, age 88, passed away on December 5, 2020. She was born on July 5, 1932 in Tao Alto, Puerto Rico to Raimundo y Marcelina Rosa Marrero. As a young woman, she left Puerto Rico for opportunities in New York where she worked at an electrical factory. Luz had one son, Jorge Luis Laureano who preceded her in death in 2017. She was a devoted mother and a woman ahead of her time who forged her own path in life, raising her son and teaching him values that allowed him to find more opportunities than she was afforded. Jorge loved his mother unconditionally. Some of her happiest moments were found in sharing Jorge’s life and in the arrival and growth of her grandchildren.
Luz spent many happy years with Angel Luis Gordils who also preceded her in death in 1992. She was later met and spent her later years with the love of her life, Santos Alvarez. Luz valued these special years with him as they enjoyed life’s simple pleasures such as sitting in the yard, having a drink with friends or watching telenovelas, as long as they were together.
Luz is survived by her siblings, Felicita Garrido and Ismael Marrero, her daughter-in-law LeMarie Laureano, and her three grandchildren, Christian, Ryan and Kaitlin Laureano.
Please join us as we celebrate her life Sunday evening on December 20th, 2020 at 5:00 pm for a virtual funeral. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to support Alzehimier’s research.
